Russian Language Day

Today, the 6th June, is the UN’s Russian Language Day! This day was created in 2010 by UNESCO to celebrate multilingualism and cultural diversity within the United Nations’ member states.

The UN Language Days serve to promote the equal use of all six official languages.

We mentioned French language day in a previous post from March, but the special focus today is on the Russian language!

Top six food-related places in St. Petersburg!

Hello everyone! One of my best friends comes from Moscow, Russia. We see each other a few times a year. It’s not possible for me get a visa for Russia every time we want to meet up, so we mostly see each other in Germany, where I live. This is convenient for her as she holds both German and Russian citizenship.

However, I stayed in Russia with my friend for a little less than a month last year and got to discover various parts of this fascinating country, including the magnificent city of St. Petersburg – now one of my favourite cities in the world!

Russian Visas

Most students who travel to Russia will require a visa. However, which visa you require will depend on your nationality and the length of your stay. Please note that the following is intended as a guide and we always strongly recommend that you contact your local Russian Consulate or Embassy with regards to specific visa requirements.

For all Russian visas you will require a letter of invitation, which will be sent to you upon receipt of your full payment. Please note that to produce your letter of invitation, the school will require some additional information from you. This varies slightly depending on the type of visa that you are applying for, please read on for further information.

Russian with a ‘babushka’!

The school is very modern, with contemporary surroundings and free online facilities. situated in a private compound and very close to the Belarus Train/Metro station. Teaching standards really were very high with experienced and qualified staff teaching expatriates from around the world.

The courses were stimulating and tailored to my linguistic level. The use of all mediums helped me appreciate the complexities of Russian language, and each 50 minute lesson was fun, making the grey matter buzz far more!

PLEASE take me back to St Petersburg!

I think the first thing I really noticed about St. Petersburg was how beautiful it is.! I’d already spent some time studying in Moscow, which is a fantastic city, but I wanted to experience something a bit different, and friends had recommend that I continue my Russian studies in St. Petersburg.

The school was a perfect choice, since it’s so centrally located in the old part of the city, and as expected had all the facilities I needed, internet, somewhere to relax and have a coffee when the Russian grammar got a bit too much!

They call it the ‘Venice of the north’ because of the many canals that go through the city centre, but for me the most impressive thing about St. Petersburg is the architecture.

The Hermitage, (picture the scene from the Bond film where Pierce Brosnan storms in to the square in a tank via a huge archway!) is perhaps the most amazing building I’ve ever been in. It has room upon room upon room of art, jewels, and sculptures etc. It’s somewhere to really loose yourself.

Don’t miss the Moscow Metro!

Ever seen a tube station with crystal chandeliers hanging down from the roof? I have!

One of my favourite places in the world is Moscow. There are many reasons to love this fantastic city: the people on the busy Tverskaya shopping street, the small shops selling hot pirogs, the amazing Red Square and the delicious Borcsh you can eat late of an evening in one of the local restaurants.
