Cologne, Germany, in the heart of Rhineland

The first thing that comes to mind when thinking of Cologne is, of course, the “Kölner Dom”. This giant cathedral is the city’s landmark and literally outstanding- but there is a lot more Cologne has to offer! Watch this video to get an amazing overview of the most important places in one of Europe’s biggest, most cosmopolitan and diverse cities.

The video below shows some of the places that make Cologne so attractive for tourists from all over the world: the lively centre around the Dom, the Roman-Germanic Museum as well as the art museum Ludwig, the thousand of love locks on the bridge right next to the Dom and of course the bank of the river Rhine, which is not only the heart of the city but also gives it its special charm.

The combination of modernism and tradition that Cologne provides is also perfectly displayed in the video. You can see fascinating pictures of ancient churches, archways and towers, which you can find in any neighbourhood, but also of modern glass buildings, such as the “Kranhäuser” (crane houses) right by the river.

And as soon as you see images of the airport, the giant fairgrounds or the masses of people surging through the shopping streets and the central station every day, you realize that Cologne is not only attractive, but also of great international relevance and popularity. You won’t be able to take the tram or visit a restaurant without hearing several different languages and meeting tourists, students or business people from all over the world.

No matter what you are interested in and whether or not you like big cities, on no account should you miss the wonderful sunset over the city’s skyline that you can watch either from one of the bridges or the eastern bank of the Rhine. Even in the video the view looks fantastic, but if you ever get the chance to actually watch it for yourself, in Cologne, you will forever love this city!
