Sorrento and its Processions!

Hi all, you know when you experience something so different from what you are used to that it leaves a lasting impression on you and makes you think about life? Well, that is just what happened to us when we went to the Easter Processions that take place in Sorrento and along its coastline.

It was a fantastic, moving and thought provoking night. It starts in Sorrento on Thursday night when many people of the town form a procession which moves through the town along with a statue of the Madonna, all people are dressed in white, symbolizing life. I think you have to be there to feel the energy and the beauty of the procession because it sure is difficult to describe! There was another procession the following night and for me these two nights really made my Easter meaningful ….and not just about eating loads of chocolate and cake!

Mind you, eating loads of chocolate and cake isn’t a bad pastime and in Sorrento – You are spoilt for choice for delicacies like Baba’ ( a cake soaked in rum,), ice-cream, lemon cakes and crepes. Sorrento and its Dolce Vita is just right for me!

But I m not ONLY here for that. My friend and I are studying Italian – its soooo much fun!… and it makes you feel so proud when you manage to say something to a local, in Italian, that they really understand! Here it’s so much fun because the Italian teachers are really lovely and professional at what they do. The classes are interesting because we have people from all different ages and countries on the course. If you think you are too old to learn a new language think again!

And the good thing is that we don’t just stay in the classroom, the teachers come out with us around town to help us use our new vocabulary in real life situations as well as taking us to places of interest.

You know a school is good when you have students that come back year after year to continue their studies and this school in Sorrento has such a welcoming and professional approach that loads of students do just that!

Time to say goodbye, arrivederci and ciao…!

I think its time for a Delice al limone, I know its only half past 10 in the morning, but as the Italians say: Carpe Diem.
