Excursion to Pompeii and Naples

I’m studying at a language school in Rome  and in September we went on an excursion in the cities of Pompeii and Naples. I wasn’t sure about going there, but my teachers told me it was something that I should have seen. They were right!

We met at the school at 7.45 a.m. to take the bus that took us to Pompeii.  The first spectacular thing when you arrive, is of course the view of the Vesuvium in  the background of the antique city. When you take a walk in the streets of the Roman antique city, you can discover thermal baths, laid, temples, basilicas, forums, sanctuaries, a big number of houses, villas, enceinte, necropolis, bakery, theatres, amphitheatre, portiques, public’s fountains and thermopiles.

Impressive is the conservation of the monuments, especially the colours of the frescos and mosaics, as this is the case for the House of the Small Fountain.  We should remember that most of these traces are 2 millenniums old!

One of the most evident attractions of Pompeii is the castings of the bodies of the immobilized victims in the volcano’s lava after the eruption on August 24th 79 AD.

We can still guess on the best conserved, the expressions of the faces, which is very emotional. At 1.30 pm, when we had finished our tour in the antique Pompeii, we went to eat a pizza. This was a pleasant occasion to meet and talk with the rest of the group, and shared our impression on the city. Later on, we went to visit the city of Naples. We went all around the historical centre. We profited to take a coffee, before returning to the bus and go to Rome.

It was a very great day !!!

    Hey Benedicte!

Your trip to Pompeii sounds encredible! Especially the historic part of it is interesting and of course very tragic, I didn’t even know that some of the bodies were so well preserved. I’d definately visit Pompeii.
