Why you should pack your bags now and come to Sorrento!

I’ve just finished my second week here at the school in Sorrento and I think I must be dreaming. Let me tell you why.

I decided I needed a break from my routine to recharge my batteries and to fulfil my dream of going to southern Italy. I chose Sorrento because of its proximity to exotic places such as the Isle of Capri, the Amalfi Coast and the ruins of Pompeii. I had heard it was rich in history and beauty and an ideal place to soak in the sun and culture.

I decided to check it out for myself and at the same time to take an Italian course which I thought would be useful. Now I’m finally here and I can’t believe it! What I hadn’t imagined was how friendly everyone is. I’ve met so many interesting people. It started with my teachers, host family and classmates at the school in Sorrento where I am studying. The classes are so much fun “Molto divertenti!”.

We study for a few hours everyday and then go out on excursions or just sunbathe at the beach which is literally a two-minute walk away. The views are spectacular: dramatic cliffs that fall into the azure Mediterranean sea with little private coves and beaches along the coast. Everyone has a scooter here! Mamma Maria, the mother of my host family, is such a good cook. I can’t help myself; pasta, pizza, fresh seafood and Italian ice-cream – I’ll go on a diet when I go back home! The streets are full of crowded cafes and everyone seems to be on holiday. I get to practice my Italian on the locals. They think I’m hilarious! I’m so happy here. I don’t know why I waited so long. I haven’t even left yet and I’m already planning my next trip back! My advice is to pack your bags!
