Our Spanish Club 50+ courses in Málaga take place at our Premium school, located just outside the city. Despite being popular with international visitors since the early 20th century, the Málaga is still very Spanish, with Spanish food being served in most restaurants, Spanish shows being played on the television and the radio, and Spanish being spoken in the streets. In fact, the city is one of the leading destinations for language learning; in 2017, nearly 17,000 international students came to study this global language! If you attend our Club 50+ programme, your lessons will take place on an extensive private campus which boasts a wide range of facilities including its own restaurant/bar, a large computer lab, a cinema room, a kitchen for cookery lessons, a dance studio, a mini-gym, an outdoor swimming pool, and private gardens with several terraces. You’ll have access to all these amenities during your stay, and will even receive free aerobics classes in the on-site studio.

The campus is in suburban Cerrado de Calderón, a primarily residential area with a commercial hub including several shops, a bank, two mercados, and a bar. Around 10 minutes away is the Parque Canino, a favourite dog-walking spot for locals. Not far from here is Playa del Palo, a small but bustling area filled with cafés, bars, and restaurants that offer real Spanish fare. By studying at this school, you’re ideally placed to experience authentic Spanish life and will have lots of opportunities to interact with the locals. What’s more, the campus is on the main bus route into the city, so you can easily get in and out of Málaga between your lessons!

As well as its excellent facilities, the school is highly certified, with Instituto Cervantes and Eaquals accreditation. It’s a member of the International Association of Language Centres (IALC), an organisation committed to maintaining high-quality language tuition. It’s also a 5-time winner of Study Travel Magazine’s Super Star School award, and in 2018 it won the PIEoneer Language Educator of the Year award. Altogether, this means that tuition at this school is of the best possible standard.

Please note: this school is located at the top of a steep hill and the campus has several sets of steps (though there is an elevator within the main building). It may not be suitable for students with reduced mobility.

Club 50+ course in Malaga (Premium)

The Club 50+ programme offered by this school consists of 15 Spanish lessons each week (3 classes per weekday) in groups of no more than 10. Lessons take place between 08:30 and 11:20 and are followed by a selection of social/cultural activities designed with mature students in mind. Tuition is suitable for all students, from complete beginners to advanced-level learners. Classes follow the same format as the standard Intensive programme, with the exception that students must be over the age of 50 to be eligible.

The Club 50+ course can be taken for 2 or 4 weeks at a time and has specific start dates throughout the year.

Accommodation

Accommodation is not included in the Club 50+ programme as standard but can be added to your tuition package.

The campus has its own high-standard student residence, which is a very popular option for pupils of all ages. The residence is newly renovated and boasts a total of 95 rooms; all have a direct-dial telephone, an en-suite shower and WC, a safety deposit box, and Wi-Fi access. Many rooms also have balconies. Other facilities are available depending on the type of room you select, as listed below:

- Standard: Single or shared* room with all the basic facilities listed above. Shared rooms also have a fridge and are ideal for couples attending the course together.

- Executive: Single- or double*-use rooms that are usually larger than a standard room and have a higher quality of decoration. Executive rooms also have a fridge, a television, and tea-/coffee-making facilities.

- Studio: Single or shared* studio apartments, each with a fully equipped kitchenette (fridge, sink, microwave, and hotplate; no oven), a television, drinks-making facilities, a guaranteed balcony, and air-conditioning throughout.

All rooms in the student residence are offered on a no-meals basis as standard; you can, however, add 1, 2, or all 3 meals per day in the on-site restaurant. The restaurant offers a selection of hot and cold dishes and can cater to students with specific dietary requirements.

For a more immersive experience, we recommend that you select homestay lodging. Hosts live up to 30 minutes’ travel from the school by public transport and all offer a safe and comfortable environment for you during your language course. You’ll stay with a native Spaniard and be able to practice Spanish with them, allowing you to carry on learning even outside the classroom. Hosts offer single or twin* bedrooms and 2 meals per day as part of your accommodation package (breakfast and dinner). As standard, you will share the living and bathroom facilities with your host(s) and any other students living in the home, though some hosts can offer rooms with private bathroom access (subject to availability). Bed linens and towels are included, though you should bring your own beach/pool towels. You will have your own key to come and go as you please, but you must respect house rules and schedules.

*Twin rooms are only available to students travelling together.

All accommodation is available between the Sunday before your course starts until the Saturday after your course finishes. Check-in and check-out times vary based on the type of lodging selected.

Activities

The Club 50+ programme includes a selection of social and cultural activities designed to supplement your Spanish tuition and give you the best possible experience in Málaga. You’re guaranteed to have one activity per day during the week, though on some days several activities may be available.

Possible activities may include:
- A welcome meeting on arrival day
- Guided tours of the city
- Visits to local museums and/or art galleries
- Cookery classes
- Walks around the Botanical Gardens
- Tapas ‘caminas’ in the city centre
- Trips to important historical/cultural sites such as the Roman amphitheatre and/or the Moorish Alcazaba
- Weekend excursions* to local points of interest such as Seville, Granada, or Jerez de la Frontera

*Students attending a 2-week course have one full-day excursion on the middle Saturday; students attending a 4-week course have two full day excursions on two of their weekends in Málaga.

You are also welcome to attend the sessions offered to all students on the general activity programme.

Suitability

This programme is ideal for mature students wanting to study Spanish with students of a similar age to themselves. Tuition is suitable for students of any ability level, from beginners right up to advanced-level learners. You do not need to start your course on a specific date if you are a beginner; since this programme only runs at certain times of year, all available start dates are available to all students, regardless of their starting language level.

Please contact us if you are unsure if this programme would be suitable for you; we will be happy to advise you.

How to get there

Málaga Costa del Sol Airport is located around 30 minutes from the city centre by car and is accessible from many European cities.

From here, you can either take public transport to your accommodation or we can add an airport transfer service to your booking for an additional charge. If you select this service, a driver will be waiting for you when you land and will take you directly to your accommodation. If you select this service on departure as well, you will be collected from your lodging on your last day and taken back to the airport in time for your departing flight.

You should arrange to arrive in Málaga on the Sunday before the course starts and depart on the Saturday after the course finishes. We may be able to arrange extra nights on arrival and/or departure for you if needed.
