Learn French in Switzerland!
Switzerland is a stunning country in Western Europe and home to four distinct linguistic communities: French, German, Italian and Romansh. Perhaps because of this, Switzerland is a country that celebrates diversity! The French spoken here varies little from that which is spoken in France and, therefore, by immersing yourself in the French language in Switzerland, you should be able to converse with any Francophone you encounter anywhere around the world! In addition to this, the idyllic scenery and incredibly welcoming people means that learning French in Switzerland is sure to be a wonderful experience!
One of the four cantons of Romandie, the French-speaking area of Switzerland, Vaud is where you will find both of our French schools. This canton is home to the magnificent Lake Geneva and is bordered to the north by the Jura Mountains and to the east by the Alps. Our schools are located in the capital of Vaud canton, Lausanne, and the ‘Capital of the Vaud Riviera’, Montreux.
Lausanne is, perhaps, most famous as the home of the International Olympic Committee and sport certainly plays an important part in the culture of this city. However, Lausanne is also a fantastic location for those interested in the history of Switzerland. Its impressive gothic cathedral is a focal point in the medieval old town and there are numerous fantastic little cafes and boutiques to explore! This is also an important wine-growing area, so we certainly recommend some wine-tasting whilst you are here!
Montreux is a cultural jewel, with a fantastically vibrant nightlife including piano and jazz bars, as well as discos! The city also plays host to the annual Montreux Jazz Festival! The mild climate, range of cultural attractions and picturesque setting on the shores of Lake Geneva has led to some dubbing Montreux the ‘Capital of the Vaud Riviera’!
