Learn Italian in Syracuse, Italy

Typical street, Syracuse, Italy
Typical street, Syracuse

Syracuse
Syracuse, in Sicily, is the greatest classical Greek city outside Athens. Today, Syracuse is divided between the modern part, on the mainland, and the ancient island centre of Syracuse – known as Ortigia. Our Italian language school is located in the heart of Ortigia. All accommodation is in Ortigia, within walking distance of the school. Students at our school feel truly immersed in the history of Sicily, surrounded by buildings which date back centuries, with Greek Temples, Aragonese and Baroque houses, Arabian alleyways and beautiful squares. Syracuse is a beautiful location in which to learn Italian, as well as a wonderful base from which to explore the rest of Sicily.

Our Italian language school in Syracuse is located in a beautifully restored 15th century building, in the heart of the ancient city of Syracuse. The school has 3 floors, a lovely central courtyard, air-conditioned classrooms, plus a multi-media room with audio/video facilities and 10 computers. There is also a library and student lounge. The sea is visible from the school entrance, with swimming spots only a few steps away.

You can learn Italian on a ‘Standard’ Italian language course of 20 lessons/week, with a maximum of 10 students/class (average of 7 - 8 students/class). Or, if you want to learn as much Italian as possible during your time in Syracuse, take the ‘Intensive’ or ‘Super-Intensive’ Italian course, which combines the ‘Standard Course’ with 5 or 10 private Italian lessons/week.

Our school in Syracuse also offers an ‘Italian and Sicilian Cooking’ course, with 6 afternoon cooking lessons per week in addition to 20 Italian language lessons. A complete menu is prepared during the cooking lessons and eaten at the end of the class.

Other courses offered by our school in Syracuse include ‘Italian and Underwater Archaeology’, with 20 Italian lessons in the morning and 10 archaeology lessons in the afternoon. The course involves snorkeling, but not scuba diving.

There is also an ‘Italian and Drawing+Painting’ course, as well as an ‘Italian and Photography course.

Our Syracuse school organises an extensive cultural program, including guided walks around ancient Syracuse, dinners, museum visits, snorkeling, scuba diving, sailing, plus full day excursions to Mount Etna, Palermo, Taormina, as well as to the beautiful Aeolian Islands.

The best way to get to Syracuse is to fly to Catania Airport (45 minutes from Syracuse). Our school can arrange for you to be met at Catania Airport and taken to your accommodation in Syracuse.
