Courses in Augsburg

Our young student German course in Augsburg offers a unique advantage: it is available year-round for students aged 14 to 17 years old who want to learn German in a fun and dynamic environment. Teenagers can participate in the Intensive (summer) course, but also have the opportunity to come to Augsburg during the winter months with the Intensive (winter) course, as well as in the autumn or spring with the Intensive (spring/autumn) German homestay programme.

During the summer, you can choose between two options for your German lessons: 20 or 24 lessons per week. Each German lesson is counted as 45 minutes of tuition where you will improve your German language through the primary skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. In the winter, spring, and autumn the 20 lesson per week course is not available so you will have to choose 24 lessons per week.

In both summer and winter, you’ll typically find an average of 10-12 students per class, with a maximum of 15 students. In contrast, during the Spring and Autumn seasons, class sizes are smaller, usually around 4-5 students per class.

The Intensive 20 course runs from Monday to Friday in the mornings, starting between 8:30 am and 9:00 am and ending around 12:30 pm, with a short break in between. The Intensive 24 Course also takes place from 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm on two afternoons per week. Students aged 14-17 years are required to have some prior knowledge of the German language at the A1 elementary level to book this course. Our classes are specifically designed with teenagers in mind, and our fully qualified native teachers aim to provide a complete cultural immersion experience in Augsburg.

Each course includes a minimum of 2 activities every week (4 activities per week in the summer and 3 in the winter) and a full-day excursion every Saturday. Additionally, students will receive full-board homestay accommodation as part of the programme.

Accommodation

Our young adults stay with native German host families, in shared rooms, on a full-board basis. A single room can be requested for an additional fee. The hosts are carefully chosen by the school's Accommodation Officer for the standard of the facilities offered. They are experienced and committed to providing our international Young Students with a welcoming and friendly home-away-from-home. The school guarantees that students will not have to travel more than 45 minutes in total, to reach the school from their accommodation and a local transportation card, for the buses and trains, is included in the programme fees.

By staying with a host family, you will have the chance to immerse yourself in everyday life and culture in Augsburg, to meet the native people and have a daily opportunity to practise your German outside of the classroom!

Supervision

A large team of experienced teachers will help make your stay in Augsburg as enjoyable as possible. The cultural activities and visits to local places of interest are all led and fully-supervised by an experienced member of school staff, including on Saturdays, when there is full-day excursion. In the evenings students will often have free time to spend with their host families, or they can go out to meet friends from their language course, provided that they confirm to their hosts where they will be and when they expect to return.
