English in Liverpool – Friday – my last day

Start reading about my time in Liverpool from Day 1.

Following on from my Thursday post, my last day on an English course in Liverpool has arrived. I am reluctant to say I am sad, as it seems impossible to be sad in Liverpool!

As expected, the last English classes I had were amazing. The day before we talked about reading so, naturally, that Friday we talked about cinema!

What that means is that we discussed film, we worked in pairs, we completed conversations, guessing games and, above all, we used the workbook in connection with the interactive whiteboard. This allowed us to watch video, listen to audio files and complete a lot of great listening exercises too!

A little graduation day!

At 12:15 the last school bell rang for me, I went to greet the teacher, who said to be very happy about me, and I continued in to the common room. The English school that was my home for the past week had arranged an amazing Graduation Day for me. I was even lent a red tunic and typical graduation hat! They gave us a certificate and a Polaroid picture that captured the moment. Very nice!

There were a lot of hugs, group pictures, our own pictures with friends and there was also a little bit of sadness, but not too much, because we’ve still the rest of the day to party together!

I was very pleased to complete my time at the school in this way and the memories will last forever!

The Walker Art Gallery

For the first time since I arrived in Liverpool, I had my lunch at home, enjoying freshly cooked pasta. I then went to visit the famous Walker Art Gallery. Mr. Walker (Andrew Barclay Walker (1824-1893)) no doubt loved Liverpool loads to gift the city such an extraordinary museum as this. It’s a gallery rich in art and open to the public…for free!

The building is majestic, in front of Lime Street and a monumental fountain, with an architecture that reminds the Greek temples. The first room on the ground floor is full of candid neoclassic statues. You can walk through and right up to these perfectly sculpted bodies all posed in wonderful positions. There is even a room dedicated to fashion, handcraft, and antiques of various ages!

The first floor of the Gallery is really breathtaking. There are eight spacious rooms that are kept in chronological order from the Middle-Age to 1800. Here you will see the collection’s most famous work from the most important European artists. Every room is amazing and it’s great spend a lot of time inside them to admire in person these fantastic works. Many of the works and artists seem familiar, or maybe I’m just used to seeing them on Art History books at school!

I viewed the renowned: “Dante’s Dream” by Dante Gabriel Rossetti, with the Vita Nova’s verses incised on the frame.“The Funeral of Shelley” by Louise Fournier. One William Turner’s works, ones of Tiziano and the well-known portrait Henry VIII.

At the end, in the exhibitions room there was an contemporary art exposition about the transparency and vision, rich in performance and amiable works. All very interesting!

Last crazy night…

After this moment of pure art, I went to the supermarket to buy a lot of things for tour planned party. Unfortunately I then had to come back home and start packing 🙁

We prepared pizza all together and then many other guys from the school also arrived. Even those who used to live in another place! A great party was had and before it got too late (so not to disturb other people who were sleeping), we moved outside. The residence I stayed in has a beautiful yard which was great to use together! After this we went in to the most lively part of Liverpool, full of lounge bars, pubs and clubs where you can have a really fun night with friends!

This was exactly what we did! One of the most crazy party nights of my life, spent with wonderful people. I have been really lucky to meet them all.

Obviously, we’ve promised to keep on touch with each other and, above all, I promised to came back in Liverpool while I am staying here in UK and.. I have already done this! Only last week! I came back in Liverpool for another crazy night with my new friends last Friday! I look forward to coming back again another time.

My last words!

How can I choose my final words? Even if it was just for one week, I have had a stunning experience that I recommend to everyone, especially if you can go for even longer. Even if you are a beginner who isn’t cut out for traditional study, then you will still have a fantastic time! The school will ensure you learn in a fun way and quickly. Being immersed in an amazing atmosphere, surrounded of lovely people, is the very best way to learn English!

This is a thing that you need to do at least once in your life! So stop waiting and start learning a language abroad!

Thanks to Apple Languages Courses and their English school in Liverpool who helped make it all possible!
