\"\"My short visit to Munich is rapidly coming to an end and so I reflect on my fortnights experiences in this big yet small city. I did not have many expectations before I came… well except that I would probably eat sausages and drink beer!<\/p>\n

Of course it did not disappoint in this respect. I sampled many different beers and tried an assortment of sausages (and I fear my sausage count is close to 100 in a fortnight). The renowned Munich ‘weiss wurst’ with ‘suess senf’ is a must for any visitor. If possible, this first experience should be shared with a local so that they can demonstrate the eating ritual. Definitely worth a try!<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Aside from the culinary delights there are many cultural activities within the city. I was surprised and delighted with the leisure programme provided by the school<\/a> and the teachers to allow and encourage the students to see as much of their wonderful city as possible. They organised visits to churches, the ballet, christmas markets, the Munich Symphonic Orchestra and local Kneipes. We even had a St Nikolas party at the school where a fellow classmate entertained us with his latest compostitions!<\/p>\n

I didn’t realise a song about ‘kartoffelsalat’ could be so funny and sung with so much passion. The ‘Tollwood’ christmas market is definitely a highlight for me. It was such a nice feeling to be standing out in the cold and drinking a gluh wein with friends.<\/p>\n

The fortnight has gone very quickly and I feel very satisfied not only with the progress that I have made in German but also to have got an insight into Munich life. It is a large city still with a cosy feeling that is seldom found in cities of this size. It was great to enter a class of six people speaking a total of eight languages all with the common aim of being able to better communicate to each other in German. I would recommend this experience to anyone !<\/p>\n
