This was because I was planning to spend several months in France, and I wanted to be in a big city, but I felt that in Lyon I would have more opportunity to speak French and experience real French culture than in Paris.<\/p>\n<p>What I discovered was that Lyon has so much more to offer than this! <a href=\"https:\/\/www.applelanguages.com\/en\/learn\/french\/france\/lyon.php\">Beautiful Lyon<\/a> lies on three rivers. The masculine Rh\u00f4ne and the feminine Sa\u00f4ne divide the city into distinct districts.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Fourvi\u00e8re, or the \u2018hill that worships\u2019, offers arguably the best views over the city, and is crowned by a magnificent basilica.<\/p>\n<p>Seated at the foot of Fourvi\u00e8re is the city\u2019s historic old town, and my favourite area of Lyon! Packed full of some of the best \u2018bouchons\u2019 (typical Lyonnais restaurants), the old town is also home to the famous \u2018traboules\u2019, which are fantastic, secret passage ways that all visitors to Lyon should explore!<\/p>\n<p>To the west of Fourvi\u00e8re lies La Croix-Rousse, or the \u2018hill that works\u2019, which was once home to Lyon\u2019s many silk workers. Nestled between the Rh\u00f4ne and Sa\u00f4ne, the Presqu\u2019\u00eele is the city\u2019s best shopping district, where you will find high street shops, designer brands, traditional French cafes and fabulous restaurants right next to each other!<\/p>\n<p>What I really loved about Lyon is that it really does offer something for everyone! Whether you are interested in culture, spectacular architecture, a vibrant nightlife, or meeting friendly locals who will encourage you to practice your French with them, Lyon has it all! Oh, and the third river?
