It is significantly known\u00a0as the place where Joan of Arc was burned at the stake, giving\u00a0a special meaning\u00a0to this city\u00a0and\u00a0making it a place full of historical interest.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The one that\u2019s called &#8220;The Maid of Orleans&#8221; is an emblematic figure of French history and gave her name to different streets, squares and monuments such as:\u00a0the church of Saint Joan of Arc and\u00a0the Tour Jeanne d\u2019Arc (the dungeon where she was imprisoned before her execution).<\/p>\n<h3>Things to do in Rouen<\/h3>\n<p>I would personally recommend going for a walk along the Seine, wandering in the pedestrian streets and just take in all the medieval buildings and houses that make this city a unique place, giving you the feeling of being in a different time.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"pic-box wp-image-3089 size-full alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.applelanguages.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Gros-Horloge-Clock-Tower.jpg\" alt=\"Gros-Horloge-Clock-Tower-Rouen\" width=\"250\" height=\"188\" \/>You should definitely see the Gros-Horloge which is a beautiful, gigantic and golden clock dating back to\u00a0the 14<sup>th<\/sup> century. You can also\u00a0visit the Cath\u00e9drale Notre-Dame which has featured in many paintings by Turner and of course, Monet, who was very much inspired by the landscapes of Normandy,\u00a0much like all the Impressionists.<\/p>\n<p>Rouen is not only a source of inspiration for painters but also for writers. Indeed, this is where the story of Emma Bovary takes place, the legendary character of one of the greatest authors of French literature: Flaubert.<\/p>\n<p>What is also great about this location is that it\u2019s near the countryside, the sea-side and not too far from Paris all at the same time! You cannot go to Rouen and miss the &#8220;tears of Joan of Arc&#8221; which are delicious chocolate covered almonds.
