Who are our Host Families?<\/strong><\/h4>\n

A \u201chost family\u201d might not always be a family in the traditional sense. You could stay with:<\/p>\n

  • A single person living alone<\/li>\n
  • A couple with or without children<\/li>\n
  • Retired people<\/li>\n
  • Parents whose children have moved out<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    What all hosts share is a commitment to providing a safe, clean, and welcoming environment. Each host is carefully selected and inspected by the school\u2019s accommodation officer, so you can expect a supportive and friendly household where you\u2019ll be encouraged to practise your target language.<\/p>\n

    Communication and daily life<\/strong><\/h4>\n

    Living in someone else\u2019s home means adapting to their way of life, but it also means being part of their culture. Here are some tips:<\/p>\n

    • Introduce yourself and interact daily.<\/strong> A simple \u201chello\u201d or \u201cgoodbye\u201d goes a long way, and dinner is a great opportunity for longer conversations.<\/li>\n
    • Don\u2019t hide away in your room.<\/strong> Your hosts won\u2019t want to intrude if you seem withdrawn, so make an effort to join in.<\/li>\n
    • Remember: you\u2019re not in a hotel.<\/strong> Be polite, respectful, and keep your space tidy. Saying \u201cplease\u201d and \u201cthank you\u201d often is always appreciated.<\/li>\n
    • Respect routines.<\/strong> Every family has its own way of doing things. If you\u2019re unsure about something, just ask.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Meals<\/strong><\/h4>\n

            • Most bathrooms are shared with the family and possibly other students.<\/li>\n

                            • Be curious.<\/strong> Ask questions about the culture, customs, and food. Hosts enjoy sharing their lives with students.<\/li>\n
                            • Speak the language.<\/strong> If you\u2019re travelling with friends, resist the temptation to speak only in your native tongue. The more you practise, the faster your progress.<\/li>\n
                            • Stay positive.<\/strong> Every challenge, from navigating transport to trying new foods, is part of learning and growing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                              Before you travel<\/strong><\/h4>\n

                              • About 10\u201314 days before your course begins, you\u2019ll receive your host family\u2019s details in your travel pack. This will include their contact information and directions.<\/li>\n
                              • We recommend emailing or messaging your host before arrival to introduce yourself and share your approximate arrival time. This helps \u201cbreak the ice.\u201d<\/li>\n
                              • Your travel pack may also include details of transfers, school rules, and permission forms. Read these carefully and discuss them with your parents\/guardians.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                                We have been arranging host family stays for over 30 years, and they are almost always a success. Problems that arise are usually due to simple misunderstandings, which can be quickly resolved with good communication.<\/p>\n
