Spend Christmas on the incredibly beautiful Amalfi coast! Discover Italian Christmas traditions in Salerno, where rows of historic whitewashed houses climb away from wonderfully clear waters towards dramatic hills. Salerno lies midway between Pompeii and Paestum, two perfectly preserved Roman towns, where you can delve into a truly captivating past. This Italian Christmas course in Salerno allows you to discover Italian history, the Italian language and, best of all, the vibrant Christmas celebrations of southern Italy!
Our school is located in the historical heart of Salerno, close to the stunning Cathedral. An elegant former palace houses our school, which boasts magnificent views of the coast.
Courses in Salerno
You will receive 4 Italian lessons per day, which take place in the mornings between 9:00am until 12:30pm. The course is available for a duration of 1 or 2 weeks, depending upon your preference. Participants on the one-week course will receive 12 Italian lessons, from the 27th – 29th December, and those on the two-week course will receive 12 Italian lessons in the first week, followed by 16 in the second week.
As the 1st January is a national holiday, the school will be closed so lessons will not take place; however, a full-day excursion will be organised instead.
Duration: 1 or 2 weeks
Dates: 26th December 2017 – 2nd or 7th January 2018
Age: Minimum 16 years
The programme also includes a rich cultural activity programme that allows students to discover the beauties of South Italy and experience the customs and traditions of the region over this festive period. In addition to the Italian lessons, the one-week programme includes:
• Orientation and welcome party
• Guided tour of Salerno under Luci D’Artista (festival of lights)
• Seminar on Italian gestures
• Guided visit of Christmas markets
• 1 full-day excursion to Pompeii
• Cultural seminar of Italian traditions during the New Year period
• Christmas games and party
• New Year’s celebrations (musical concert and fireworks)
• 1 full-day excursion to Amalfi and Ravello
The 2-week New Year programme includes all of the above activities, plus:
• Italian cookery lesson
• Visit to the Mozzarella factory
• Seminar on Italian idioms and sayings
• Wine tasting tour
• Full day excursion to the Paestum (Greek temples and archaeological site)
Host families in a single room on a half-board basis. Half-board consists of breakfast and dinner with your host(s) each day, including a special New Year’s Eve dinner on the 31st December. Double rooms are also available for students travelling together.
Shared apartments, which include a single bedroom with shared bathroom and kitchen facilities. Double bedrooms are also available for students travelling together.
All accommodation options are in the city centre, within walking distance to the school.
How to get there
The best way to get to Salerno is to fly into Naples Airport. From Naples, there are regular direct trains to Salerno. Alternatively, we can arrange airport transfers to / from at an additional cost, which will take you straight to your accommodation.
