Details

20 French lessons per week + activities and excursions* + full-board accommodation. Students learn and lodge at a fully equipped campus to the north of the main city centre. Children stay in dorms shared with up to 3 other international students, grouped as appropriate by age and gender, and receive 3 meals per day as part of the comprehensive juniors’ package. Special diets can be accommodated, though please note that a gluten-free diet incurs an additional supplement. Staff members stay on-site for the duration of the programme, providing 24-hour supervision to all children.

French lessons take place between 09:00 - 12:30, with a 30-minute break in between. There is a maximum of 15 students per class, allowing each child a highly personalised language experience. Lessons are provided for all levels and focus on a range of skills, including cementing grammatical fundamentals, developing practical communication and language comprehension, and strengthening spoken ability through dynamic activities. Course materials are included in the cost of the programme. Juniors who already have accommodation in the area can book a day programme (consisting of lessons, lunch, and activities) or just tuition at our school. On public holidays, the school will be closed; students will attend a full-day excursion instead of having lessons (this is not applicable to students who book the lessons only option).

There are no lessons on the first Monday. Instead, after their comprehensive introductory meeting, students submit their written and oral level tests. After this, the children have lunch and then visit the city; this enables them to get to know one another and familiarise themselves with camp routine before starting classes the following day. This approach is very successful in making our young pupils feel safe, welcome, and happy.

Activities are included in the programme price, scheduled in the afternoon after French lessons have finished. These activities - supervised by qualified staff or instructors from our school - are designed to be fun and age-appropriate and can include:
- Beach activities such as sports or picnics
- Music and/or dance workshops
- 1 afternoon of sailing per week
- Group games such as quizzes or treasure hunts
- French film nights
- Visits to local attractions such as Marineland or the Picasso Museum
- Themed evenings such as discos and/or karaoke nights
- Welcome BBQ (on-site; every Monday)
- Farewell party (on-site; every Friday)
- Excursions on Saturdays to local points of interest such as Monaco, Grasse, and the nearby Aquasplash waterpark

Additional ‘kiosk’ activities may be available to some students for an additional fee (age dependent). These activities are conducted by local professionals rather than members of staff from our language school. Available kiosk activities vary seasonally but may include snorkelling, paintballing, mini-golf, banana boating, bowling, go-karting, and more. These should be arranged directly at the school once the course has started, and can be paid for on-site.

Students aged 8 - 11 are not allowed to go out unsupervised at any time. During excursions and activities, they will have monitored free time to explore the location or enjoy the activity. Juniors must return to their rooms after evening activities have finished.

Did you know? Parents can arrange adult courses for themselves at our school, while children enjoy their specialised programme on the young students’ campus.

Suitability

This course is suitable for students of any nationality aged 8 - 11.

Dates: 23rd June - 24th August**

If you want to have fun, improve your French skills, meet students from across the world, and experience French culture in a lovely coastal location, this is the course for you!

School

Lessons for young students take place on a secure 5-acre campus located in a quiet residential district around 2 km from the town centre. The campus boasts lots of amenities including its own classrooms, a self-service restaurant, an amphitheatre used for evening events, a television lounge with its own cafeteria, and a large, above-ground, swimming pool. The private gardens and sports facilities provide a safe and peaceful place for socialising, studying, and letting off steam in between lessons. There is also a residential building with 2- to 4-bed dormitories; children are allocated to a room with other students of the same gender and a similar age and share bathroom facilities with the other residents on their floor. Staff members stay on-site throughout the programme, providing 24-hour supervision and care to all children. Bed linen is provided and is changed weekly, but towels are not, so students should bring their own. Coin-operated laundry facilities are available on-site for those who need them. Rooms and common areas are cleaned regularly, but students are expected to keep their dormitories clean and tidy during their stay.

This safe, purpose-built campus really is ideal for young students, as it provides them with a secure and friendly place to learn and socialise during their time in France. Courses for juniors have taken place here for more than 30 years, so the tutors and programme leaders are accustomed to supporting and teaching children of all abilities, nationalities, and backgrounds. Situated in a quiet and peaceful residential area, the campus is still close to the sights and sounds of the town. The famous and bustling Port Vauban is just a 10-minute bus ride away, and from here it’s just a 5-minute walk to other attractions such as Fort Carré, the Picasso Museum, and the wide selection of shops and boutiques the Old Town has to offer. Such proximity to the centre provides our junior students with a culturally immersive experience that helps them to improve their language skills. Given the town’s medium size and its calm coastal atmosphere, all our young students can enjoy a friendly and pleasant learning environment during their stay. There really are few better places for juniors to learn French than this!

Antibes

Antibes is a renowned resort on France’s southern ‘Blue Coast’, famous for its seashores. It boasts 16 miles (25 km) of coastline and a grand total of 48 individual beaches, many of which have been awarded Blue Flag Awards for their cleanliness and the excellence of their facilities. Founded by the Ancient Greeks, Antibes was popularised by European nobility and American elites in the 19th and 20th centuries. Being neither as well-known nor as well-developed as nearby Nice and Cannes during this period, the town was favoured by artists and creatives including Pablo Picasso, who famously lived in the town’s castle for a few months in 1946. Picasso left a variety of his works behind when he returned to his Paris studio, including sculptures and ceramics - these and other works now constitute the Pablo Picasso Museum, located in the castle where the artist so briefly lived. Other prominent visitors included Charlie Chaplin, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Marlene Dietrich.

Today, Antibes is the coastal staycation spot for French families; unlike other areas of the Côte d’Azur, visitors will have plenty of opportunity to practice French with native speakers. Of course, the coast is also the destination of choice for many international holidaymakers, so students learning French here are guaranteed to have a dynamic experience with peers from around the world. Antibes also offers a wealth of interesting attractions, including the Marineland oceanarium; one of the world’s the largest, it attracts over 1.2 million visitors annually! The walled Old Town is essentially one large attraction in itself, with quaint cafés, tree-lined streets, and old stone houses with traditional shuttered windows. Being here truly feels like walking back through time! This is offset by the bustling Port Vauban, which has been used since the Greeks arrived in the 4th century BC and which is now the biggest yachting harbour in Europe. Due to the Côte d’Azur’s reputation as a hub for the wealthy, the port is frequented by the likes of Roman Abramovich and Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, and a yacht berth in the harbour will set you back upwards of €1 million!

The pace of life in Antibes is usually calm and peaceful, though it does get very busy in the summer as visitors flock to see its beaches, its charming Old Town, and its various green spaces. Antibes hosts many cultural events throughout the year, including Jazz a Juan in July, a long-running music festival in the nearby resort of Juan-les-Pins that has played host to some of the most famous names in jazz, including B. B. King, Ray Charles, Dee Dee Bridgewater, and Fats Waller. A quintessentially Antibois celebration is June’s Festival of Saint Peter, which honours the patron saint of fishermen. The festival features a parade of brightly coloured boats along the coastline, all toting French flags and paper lanterns, which exemplifies the strong ties this town has with the sea. Less impressive but equally as culturally important are the weekly Sunday markets, including the famous Covered Market - arguably the centre of the town - serving a variety of traditional Provençal produce.

How to get there

Transfers on arrival and departure are included in the programme price and are available at either Antibes train station or Nice airport.

Students will be collected on arrival at their selected location as per their travel details and will be taken directly to their accommodation. This is a shared service, meaning that children may need to wait up to 2 hours after landing; during this time, they will be supervised by school staff members and be able to get to know their fellow pupils. On their last day, students will be collected from their accommodation and taken back to the appropriate destination in time for their departing flight/train.

Juniors should plan to arrive in Antibes on the Sunday before their lessons are due to start and leave on the Saturday after their lessons have finished. We may be able to arrange additional nights on arrival and/or departure to fit in with students’ travel plans.

Please note that children attending this programme alone may need to arrange an Unaccompanied Minors’ service with their airline. If this is the case, please contact us prior to making your booking.
