Details

20 Spanish lessons per week + activities and excursions + full-board accommodation in the homes of local hosts or in one of the school’s student residences. Hosts may live up to 30 minutes* from the school by public transport; the residences are located between 5 and 15 minutes from the school on foot. Students of all ages stay in shared bedrooms and receive a full-board meal package. Friends and siblings can request to stay together. Bed linens, towels, and a weekly laundry service are included.

Lessons take place between 09:30 and 13:20 Monday to Friday, although it is possible that some days you will have activities in the morning and classes in the afternoon. There is a maximum of 12 pupils in each group; studying in such small numbers allows all students to get plenty of language practice during each lesson. The classes are immersive - i.e. held entirely in Spanish - and cover all areas of language learning: speaking, listening, reading, writing, and grammar. Course materials are included in the programme price and provided on the first day. Each student receives a certificate of showing their newly achieved level at the end of the course.

A selection of social activities are also included in the programme price. They are given in Spanish, giving students extra language exposure and practice outside the classroom, and are supplied by school staff members as well as experienced local providers. They are designed to be both fun and educational; they also have the added benefit of teaching students about Spanish life and culture. The schedule changes regularly but could include:

- Walking tours around the city
- Visits to attractions like the City of Arts and Sciences
- Cycling trips
- Group games and sports
- Shopping/cinema trips
- Garden paella party/BBQ
- Bowling/disco/quiz night
- Half- and full-day excursions to local places of interest, including the Aquapark, Albufera Lake, and Benicassim

Younger students have daily activities; older students have 3 weekly afternoons and evenings of activities - the rest of their time is their own to experience the city as they wish. This level of autonomy allows teenagers to gain a sense of independence and cultivate key life skills, which we find is highly beneficial for personal development.

School

Our Spanish course for teenagers takes place at our general adult school located in the heart of the Carmen district, the city’s Old Town. This area is packed with cafés and boutique stores, and street art both old and new abounds. One of the key meeting points in the city, Plaça de la Verge, is just 5 minutes’ walk from the language centre; this lively public square is home to the striking Turia Fountain and the city’s beautiful 13th-century cathedral. The church’s belltower is a key Valencian landmark and can be climbed for just a few Euros, providing stunning panoramas over the city.

More distant attractions, which can be easily reached on foot or by public transport, include the vast and futuristic City of Arts and Sciences complex, Jardins del Real / Vivers public park and, of course, the beach! Right next to the port there’s 3.6 km of glorious, uninterrupted sand - where better to relax after class than this?! The promenade stretching along the seafront is wide and palm-lined, providing the perfect environment for a calming and authentic evening paseo.

The school building has been recently renovated and offers an interesting blend of history and modernity. Segments of the city’s 11th-century Moorish walls are complemented by clean glass framed by black metal, while colourful contemporary furniture nestles in ancient stone alcoves. There is a total of 28 classrooms spread across two floors, as well as a kitchen used for cooking workshops and a dedicated reading area/student lounge. There is a lovely walled garden at the back of the school; here you’ll find two terraces with ample seating and a BBQ. Wi-Fi and air-conditioning are available throughout the school. Adults attend separate classes in a separate part of the building.

Accommodation for students attending this programme is provided either in the homes of Spanish hosts or in one of our two central residences. Hosts live up to 30 minutes* from the language school by public transport and provide twin bedrooms with access to shared bathrooms. Friends and relatives can request to stay together; students travelling alone can select a twin room and share the room with another teenager of the same gender.

There are two types of residences for teenagers. 13- to 15-year-olds stay in twin, triple, or quad rooms in the Mercado student house, which is just 6 minutes’ walk from the language school. Bathrooms are shared and there is also a lounge, a dining room, and on-site laundry facilities. Older students stay in twin ensuite rooms in a brand-new residence located 12 minutes’ walk from the language school. It has a cafeteria and dining room, a gym, and air-conditioning. Both buildings have Wi-Fi. Staff members stay overnight in both residences to provide support and supervision to students.

This language centre employs highly qualified and experienced tutors who are used to teaching in a dynamic and immersive way. It has accreditation from the Cervantes Institute - the leading body for Spanish-language tuition worldwide - and the Spanish Federation of Associations of Spanish Schools for Foreigners (FEDELE). It is also a member of the International Association of Language Centres (IALC), a quality-control organisation dedicated to maintaining high standards of tuition in all its member schools.

With these credentials, you can be confident that this school is the right pick for you, whatever your learning needs and wherever you’re coming from. What’s more, all students benefit from regular interaction with the friendly and dedicated Student Services Team, which provides support to the students and peace of mind to parents/guardians back home!

Valencia

Boasting more than 300 annual days of sunshine and a total of almost 20 km of beaches, the coastal Catalan city of Valencia offers an excellent opportunity for an unforgettable language holiday. It is a particularly ideal study location for teenagers and young adults thanks to its medium size, numerous attractions, efficient public transport system, and safe and compact centre.

Valencia effortlessly combines the historic with the truly futuristic. One only needs to compare its beautiful Gothic cathedral with the breath-taking City of Arts and Sciences complex to see how traditions and modernity stand side-by-side here. Ancient and stunningly ornate stone buildings contrast with sweeping iron domes and stunning facades of glass and white concrete. These are interspersed with acres of verdant parkland, particularly the gorgeous Turia, the converted riverbed which spans 7 km and contains the amazing Bioparc zoo and Europe’s largest aquarium. It really is an experience just to walk around and soak in the sights!

Within the Old Town (where our outstanding language school is located) you can find a wonderful range of churches, plazas, markets, and restaurants serving that world-famous Valencian dish: paella (only made in the true way here, if you ask the locals). By venturing further out, you can experience authentic life as a local in the city’s residential areas, or even visit one of the picturesque nearby villages such as Xàtiva and Sagunto, which can be reached in under an hour by public transport.

There is always something going on in Valencia, however, and all tastes are catered to, so you may not wish to leave! There’s a wealth of historic sites and museums for the culture vultures, extensive beaches for sunbathers and surfers, and shops galore - from haute couture stores to stylish independent boutiques - for those who love retail therapy. Those who enjoy staying active can utilise the 150+ km of cycle lanes to explore; bike hire is available all around the city and, being completely flat, it’s easy to get around on two wheels!

Numerous popular events take place throughout the year; these include the unique and colourful Fallas parades, the Ferio de Julio featuring a famous ‘flower battle’, Holy Week, Pride, Night of the Witches, the Three Kings’ Parade, and many, many more. Valencia is a city of fun and fireworks, and visitors are more than welcome to join in.

With so much to offer, more and more international students are choosing Valencia for their Spanish courses. In doing so, they can experience the very best of Spain in this very ‘Spanish’ of cities.

How to get there

Valencia (Manises) International Airport sits just outside the city and is 10 km from the city centre. The journey takes around 20 minutes by car.

From here, you can either take public transport to your accommodation or we can arrange an airport transfer service for you for an additional charge. If you book this service, a driver will be waiting for you when you land and will take you directly to your accommodation. If you select this service on departure as well, you will be collected from your lodging on your last day and taken back to the airport in time for your departing flight. This is a shared service, so students may need to wait at the airport with school staff while others arrive.

Private transfers are available on-request for students arriving outside the specified window. The school also offers an Unaccompanied Minors’ Service (UMS); if your airline requires that you select this for your child, please contact us for further information.

Students should arrive in Valencia on the Sunday before their lessons start and leave on the Saturday after their lessons finish. Extra nights on arrival and/or departure may be available if needed. Please get in touch with us before making any travel arrangements.
