Details

20 or 26 French lessons per week + activities and excursions + full-board accommodation with a host family or in a student residence (summer only).

The core French programme of 20 lessons per week takes place Monday to Friday. Lessons can be held in the morning or afternoon, depending how many students are enrolled. Lessons will always be grouped together though to ensure students are able to make the most of their free time and the exciting activity programme on offer. Lessons are taught in French by qualified native-speaking teachers. Your sessions will be engaging, fun and challenging to ensure you gain as much benefit as possible from your time in France. There will be focus on all aspects of the language - before long you will be conversing in French without a second thought! As reading, writing and grammar are also given lots of attention, getting around Nice will become a breeze as you navigate local signs, menus and transport options. The maximum class size is just 15 students to ensure everyone receives lots of personal attention.

If you would like to include more classroom hours we also offer Super Intensive courses of 20+6 lessons per week (with the extra lessons having a maximum class size of just ten students), and combined courses of group and private lessons. It’s possible to tailor private lessons to suit your own requirements exactly, so if you’re preparing for an exam, be sure to take your coursework along to show your dedicated teacher.

On the first Monday all students take a level test to make sure they are placed in a group with students who have the same level of French. Courses for students who have an elementary or intermediate level of French start every Monday between March and October, with set start dates for beginners and students with an advanced level. During the summer months courses for all levels start every Monday.

Why not compliment your language lessons with a stay with a host family. This type of accommodation provides invaluable exposure to the French language that classroom study simply cannot provide. You will live with a friendly host or host family and experience day-to-day life in a French household. All homestays are carefully selected by the accommodation officer at the language school, with friendliness, comfort and location being the most important criteria.

In Nice, most hosts live in apartments rather than houses. All are located in what are considered to be safe areas, within 30 minutes of the school on foot or by public transport. On the first morning your host will accompany you to the school to make sure you know the best way to get there each day. You could find yourself staying with an older couple whose children have left home, a couple without children, a single person who lives alone, or in a more traditional family setting. Regardless of the make-up of the household, you can be sure of a warm welcome. In most cases you will share a room with another student; if you are travelling alone the school will allocate a roommate, and if you are travelling with a friend or family member we will place you together (if this is your preference). You can expect your room to be clean and comfortable, with a bed and somewhere to store your clothes. Bed linen is provided but you should pack your own towels. You will share the bathroom with the family members so it’s important to be considerate. Some host families will provide a laundry service but they are not obliged to. You can discuss this with them on arrival. If the laundry service isn’t offered there are lots of launderettes in the centre of Nice. It is important to note that you will stay in a typical household, and as such the home is unlikely to have air-conditioning.

A stay with a host family will help to develop your conversation skills and will provide great memories, but you shouldn’t expect the accommodation to be akin to a hotel. Meals are offered on a full board basis, with the host family providing breakfast and dinner at the home, and lunch being taken at the school cafeteria. Breakfast is light meal which usually comprises of a drink (milk, chocolate, coffee, tea or water) and cereal or bread/toast with butter and jam. It is sometimes the case that family members need to leave early for work, which might mean you take breakfast alone. The family will let you know how to help yourself in this case and where to put the dishes after use. Lunch is served at the school restaurant. Dinner is a more social affair, when all members of the household sit down to eat together. This is your opportunity to put those newly-perfected French skills into practise!

During the summer months we also offer student residence accommodation. There are three different residences, two that offer shared room accommodation and one that offers single room accommodation.

The two shared room residences are also home to the classrooms. The bedrooms accommodate three or four students and have single beds, desks and wardrobes. Each room also has a private bathroom with sink, shower and toilet. The public areas of the residences include the cafeteria, reception area with Wi-Fi, and facilities like table tennis, television area, and video and board games.

For students who want a bit more privacy, we have the single room residence. This premium accommodation option offers 170 air-conditioned single rooms, each with a private bathroom and Wi-Fi access. There is also a lounge area with vending machines, television, video games, table football and billiards table. Students staying here will be transported to one of the other residences for their lessons and meals.

Whichever residence you stay in, there will be 24-hour supervision and support as staff members live on-site. Bed linen is provided but students have to take their own towels. The single room residence has coin-operated laundry facilities. If students staying in the other residences need to wash their clothes there are launderettes located within easy walking distance.

Full board meals are offered on a self-service basis and food is varied, healthy and plentiful! If you have any allergies or dietary requirements, please mention these at the time of booking.

As standard, accommodation is included from the Sunday before the course begins to the Saturday after the course finishes.

With this programme, language learning isn’t limited to the classroom! The friendly animation team work hard to offer a varied schedule of activities and excursions, all designed with teenagers in mind. The welcome meeting on the first Monday morning will ensure you know where to go to find out which activities are taking place each day, as well as the start times and meeting points. During the summer students can expect a timetable boasting four cultural or sporting activities per week, as well as one half-day and one full-day excursion per week. Outside of the summer the programme is slightly reduced, with students able to join two cultural or sporting activities per week in addition to the half-day and full-day excursions. The schedule can include things like guided walks, museum visits, trips to the beach to relax or play games/sports, shopping, parties, film nights, games and outings to nearby towns (Villefranche, Eze, Beaulieu etc). Half-day excursions take in locations such as Juan-les-Pins, Antibes and St Paul de Vence, and full-day excursions allow the group to travel a little further afield to glamourous cities such as Cannes, St Tropez and Monaco; historic sites like Gourdon; or even over the border to San Remo in Italy! In addition to the included activities there will be the option to pay extra to participate in pastimes like paintball, parasailing, diving and bowling.

During the summer we also offer focussed activities, whereby students can book and pay for a more formal course of a specific activity in advance. The options include French and Sailing, French and Diving, and French and Scuba Diving (20 French lessons + five afternoons of the chosen activity per week). There is also the option to take French and Cookery, which includes three afternoon cooking lessons per week. Please contact us for more information on these courses.

All students are strongly encouraged to join the activities as they are an important part of the programme, strengthening language skills and friendships. However, students will be allowed to go out and explore independently in small groups if they are given parental permission in advance. The permission form, which will be sent with the booking confirmation, also allows parents to set a curfew, with different free time restrictions for students depending on their age.

Suitability

This French course for teenagers is available to students of all French levels aged between 12 and 17 years. If you want to learn or perfect your French language skills in the stunning French Riviera, get in touch!

School

Outside of the summer, the course for young students takes place in the main school building, where adult students and school groups travelling together will also be attending courses. The building is located in the Quartier des Musiciens area of the city, just a short walk from Nice-Ville train station and around 15 minutes away from the beach. The school has 16 air-conditioned classrooms, a large garden and a recreation room with computer stations and vending machines.

During summer lessons take place at one of the residences, meaning students who choose this type of accommodation have the convenience of living and studying at the same address. Both are located just a 15-20 minute walk from the nearest beach, and 15 minutes by school-supplied shuttle bus from the Old Town and main shopping streets.

Nice

Nice is a beautiful city located on the Mediterranean coast in the south of France. Offering fabulous examples of Belle Époque, Art Deco, Baroque and modern architecture, Nice was recently included in the UNESCO World Heritage list and offers visitors much to see. Enjoy exploring the twisting alleys of the old town, stop at a local market to sample local delicacies or buy mementos, take a trip to Cimiez and peruse the Musée MatisseI, or simply pack a towel and some sunscreen and enjoy soaking up the sun on one of the pebbly beaches of the area.

How to get there

Nice Airport is the third busiest airport in France (after the two in Paris) so there is no shortage of flights available. The airport is just a short drive from the city and return transfers are included in this teenage package. Please be advised that a supplement is charged for any students travelling as unaccompanied minors.

Transfers are also included from the train station in Nice, which is well connected to many major cities.

Accommodation is included from the Sunday before the course begins to the Saturday after the course finishes, unless extra nights of accommodation are booked and paid for.
