Portuguese Christmas Course in Faro

Accommodation

Accommodation is not included in this package as standard but can be added for an additional fee. The below options are available between Sunday 15th and Saturday 28th December 2019.

For maximum language immersion, we highly recommend staying with a homestay host. When selecting this option, you’ll receive a private bedroom and breakfast each day provided by your hosts. This leaves your evenings free to eat in local restaurants and experience the city’s festivities during your visit. Hosts are all native Portuguese speakers, meaning you’ll benefit from invaluable language practice outside the classroom. You’ll share the bathroom with your host(s) and any other students in the home. Bed linens and towels are included but laundry is not; your host(s) will be happy to advise you about nearby public services.

Students wanting a more social experience may prefer to select shared apartment lodging. With this option, you’ll have a private bedroom and have shared use of the communal areas such as the kitchen, bathroom(s), and lounge. The apartment is located just across the street from the school, so you’ll be within easy walking distance of both your lessons and the city’s attractions. Rooms are offered on a self-catering basis, giving you the freedom to cook for yourself during your stay. Bed linens and towels are included; the building has its own laundry room for students’ use. Please note: you’ll be required to pay a €100 security deposit in cash on arrival, which will be returned to you on departure providing the apartment is left in a suitable condition.

If you prefer, you are welcome to book just your tuition with us and arrange your own lodging in Faro.

Activities

In addition to Portuguese tuition, our school in Faro offers an extensive cultural activity programme. This consists of:

• Portuguese film screenings
• cultural lectures/seminars
• guided visits to local museums and monuments
• outings to live music concerts
• half-day excursions to local points of interest
• sports/games such as mountain-biking or paintball

All activities are held in Portuguese, giving you the opportunity to practice your language skills outside the classroom and meet fellow language enthusiasts. Most of the activities offered at this time of year have a Christmas theme and will therefore give you an insight into the local history of Faro and Portuguese festive traditions. Some activities may incur an additional fee to cover entrance and/or transportation costs.
