Spanish Club 50+ course in Cadiz

20 Spanish lessons per week
Small class sizes that benefit mature students
Daily activities (excludes Sundays)

Our Spanish Club 50+ courses in Cádiz take place at our Spanish language school on the edge of the city’s central Old Town. The locals here are well-known for being very open, friendly and welcoming, making Cádiz a fantastic location for learning Spanish! Our school here is part of a group of schools that was founded in 1983 and therefore has over 30 years’ experience teaching Spanish to international students of all ability levels. The Cádiz facility has 13 classrooms, a kitchen for cookery lessons, and various study spaces. A spacious student lounge allows you to socialise or catch up on schoolwork between lessons. The jewel of the building is undoubtedly its rooftop terrace, an excellent spot for a bit of relaxation under the sun.

The school’s prime placement close to some of the city’s main attractions makes it a sought-after study location. Just a 5-minute walk away is the Puertas de Tierra - ‘Gates of the Earth’ - the old entrance to the city that dates back to the 16th century. Nearby is the Ancient Roman amphitheatre, which is considered to be the second-largest in the world, and Cádiz Cathedral, an impressive Baroque construction overlooking the coast. Dominating the city’s skyline, the cathedral is perhaps best-known for its golden-tiled dome, which shimmers in the bright Mediterranean sunshine. The cathedral’s Levant Tower is open to the public and offers stunning views over this ancient city. Also within easy reach of the school are several public parks and Playa Santa María del Mar, a small and sheltered beach that’s popular with the locals.

Our Cádiz school is accredited by the Cervantes Institute and the universities of Seville and Barcelona. It is also a member of the International Association of Language Centres (IALC) and the Spanish Federation of Schools of Spanish for Foreigners (FEDELE). These credentials demonstrate the high quality of tuition available here. Cádiz is compact enough that our school is within easy reach of all the sights and sounds of this cultural capital.

Club 50+ course in Cadiz

The Club 50+ package offered by this school consists of 20 Spanish lessons each week (4 classes per weekday) in groups of no more than 8. Lessons take place between 09:15 and 13:00 and are followed by a selection of social/cultural activities designed with mature students in mind. Tuition is suitable for all students, from complete beginners to advanced-level learners. Classes follow the same format as the standard Intensive programme, with the exception that students must be over the age of 50 to be eligible. Course materials for this programme are purchased on-site.

The Club 50+ course can be taken for 2 weeks at a time and has specific start dates throughout the year.

Accommodation

Accommodation is not included in the Club 50+ programme as standard but can be added to your tuition package.

For a fully immersive experience, we recommend that you select homestay lodging. You’ll stay with a native Spaniard and be able to practice Spanish with them, so you can carry on learning even outside the classroom. Hosts live up to 20 minutes’ walk from the school and all offer a safe and comfortable living environment. You’ll have a private single or twin* bedroom and 1, 2, or all 3 meals per day as part of your accommodation package. Special diets - such as vegan, gluten-/lactose-free, halal, etc. - can be provided for an additional fee (does not include vegetarian diets). As standard, you will share the living and bathroom facilities with your host(s) and any other students living in the home, though some hosts can offer rooms with private bathroom access (subject to availability). Bed linens, towels, and a weekly laundry service are included in the accommodation package. You will have your own key to come and go as you please, but you must respect house rules and schedules.

If you prefer more privacy, a studio apartment would be the best option. Apartments are located within a maximum of 20 minutes’ walk from the school and are usually close to public transport links. You’ll have a sizeable single or twin* flat with its own fully equipped kitchenette, bathroom, and bedroom; many apartments also have a separate lounge area. The studios are offered on a self-catering basis, giving you the freedom to cook for yourself during your stay. Bed linens and towels are provided as standard. Many apartments or apartment blocks have on-site laundry facilities, but some may not; you may therefore need to use a local laundrette for this service. All apartments have air-conditioning, heating, and Wi-Fi access.

*Twin rooms are only available to students travelling together.

All accommodation is available between the Sunday before the start of your course and the Saturday after your course finishes. Check-in and check-out times vary based on the type of lodging selected.

Activities

The Club 50+ package includes a selection of social and cultural activities designed to supplement your Spanish tuition and give you the best possible experience in Cádiz.

You’re guaranteed to have the following activities:
- An orientation walk through the city
- A welcome drink
- A meal with your teacher and fellow classmates
- A visit to a flamenco show
- A cookery class
- A highlight activity according to the time of travel (wine and gastronomy or art and culture)

Other activities may also be available, such as:
- Visits to local museums and/or art galleries (including entry fees)
- Spanish film screenings
- Extra language workshops
- Tapas ‘caminas’ through the city
- Wine-tasting workshops
- Full-day excursions to locations such as Medina Sidonia, Vejer de la Frontera, or Granada.

You are also welcome to attend the sessions offered to all students on the general activity programme if you wish.

Suitability

This programme is ideal for mature students wanting to study Spanish with other international learners of a similar age. Tuition is suitable for students of any ability level, from beginner right up to advanced. You do not need to start your course on a specific date if you are a beginner; since this programme only runs at certain times of year, all available start dates are appropriate for all students, regardless of their starting language level.

Please contact us if you are unsure if this programme would be suitable for you; we will be happy to advise you.

How to get there

Cádiz does not have its own airport, though there are several international airports close to the city that you can travel to. Jerez Airport is just over 30 minutes away; Seville Airport is 1.5 hours away; and Málaga Costa del Sol Airport is 2.5 hours away. These three airports are all easily accessible from many European cities.

From these airports, you can either take public transport to your accommodation or we can add an airport transfer service to your booking for an additional charge. If you select this service, a driver will be waiting for you at your chosen airport when you land and will take you directly to your accommodation. If you select this service on departure as well, you will be collected from your lodging on your last day and taken back to your chosen airport in time for your departing flight. Transfer services are also available at Cádiz train station.

You should arrange to arrive in Cádiz on the Sunday before the course starts and depart on the Saturday after the course finishes. We may be able to arrange extra nights on arrival and/or departure for you if needed.

Our teacher, Isa, was excellent. Her lessons were well prepared and she was very helpful. She explained the grammar in good detail and she gave us lots of encouragement to speak Spanish.

Our accommodation in Oca was very spacious. It was bright and clean. It was very close to the old town with its restaurants and shops and a supermarket. There was a promenade along the sea nearby. We enjoyed our time there.

Loved it! Staff very friendly & approachable. Classes very structured but also plenty of opportunity to speak Spanish. I would recommend any language student to go there.

Although my room was small (the box room) Antonia and her son were very welcoming. Antonia’s cooking was great and on most occasions she would eat with myself & the other student, talking in Spanish.

Apple language courses staff were very helpful and it was good to have very clear information about the school & the accommodation. Thank you.

I thoroughly enjoyed the course. It was well structured and professionally delivered by enthusiastic staff. I was impressed by the professionalism and reliability of all the administrative detail and paperwork both in the UK and in Spain. My transfers proved to be reliable and punctual and directions to the school were detailed, accurate and very helpful. I very much appreciated having the daily excursions included in my Club 50 package and found most of them to be interesting, entertaining and very well conducted.

My accommodation was excellent in its location, proximity to the school, comfort, cleanliness and the hospitality and friendliness of my host.
