Daily activities (excludes weekends)
Full-day excursions to towns or cities
Use of all on-site facilities
Free aerobics classes

Our Spanish Club 50+ courses in Málaga take place at our Premium school, located just outside the city. Despite being popular with international visitors since the early 20th century, the Málaga is still very Spanish, with Spanish food being served in most restaurants, Spanish shows being played on the television and the radio, and Spanish being spoken in the streets. In fact, the city is one of the leading destinations for language learning; in 2017, nearly 17,000 international students came to study this global language! If you attend our Club 50+ programme, your lessons will take place on an extensive private campus which boasts a wide range of facilities including its own restaurant/bar, a large computer lab, a cinema room, a kitchen for cookery lessons, a dance studio, a mini-gym, an outdoor swimming pool, and private gardens with several terraces. You’ll have access to all these amenities during your stay, and will even receive free aerobics classes in the on-site studio.

The campus is in suburban Cerrado de Calderón, a primarily residential area with a commercial hub including several shops, a bank, two mercados, and a bar. Around 10 minutes away is the Parque Canino, a favourite dog-walking spot for locals. Not far from here is Playa del Palo, a small but bustling area filled with cafés, bars, and restaurants that offer real Spanish fare. By studying at this school, you’re ideally placed to experience authentic Spanish life and will have lots of opportunities to interact with the locals. What’s more, the campus is on the main bus route into the city, so you can easily get in and out of Málaga between your lessons!

As well as its excellent facilities, the school is highly certified, with Instituto Cervantes and Eaquals accreditation. It’s a member of the International Association of Language Centres (IALC), an organisation committed to maintaining high-quality language tuition. It’s also a 5-time winner of Study Travel Magazine’s Super Star School award, and in 2018 it won the PIEoneer Language Educator of the Year award. Altogether, this means that tuition at this school is of the best possible standard.

Please note: this school is located at the top of a steep hill and the campus has several sets of steps (though there is an elevator within the main building). It may not be suitable for students with reduced mobility.

Club 50+ course in Malaga (Premium)

The Club 50+ programme offered by this school consists of 15 Spanish lessons each week (3 classes per weekday) in groups of no more than 10. Lessons take place between 08:30 and 11:20 and are followed by a selection of social/cultural activities designed with mature students in mind. Tuition is suitable for all students, from complete beginners to advanced-level learners. Classes follow the same format as the standard Intensive programme, with the exception that students must be over the age of 50 to be eligible.

The Club 50+ course can be taken for 2 or 4 weeks at a time and has specific start dates throughout the year.

Accommodation

Accommodation is not included in the Club 50+ programme as standard but can be added to your tuition package.

The campus has its own high-standard student residence, which is a very popular option for pupils of all ages. The residence is newly renovated and boasts a total of 95 rooms; all have a direct-dial telephone, an en-suite shower and WC, a safety deposit box, and Wi-Fi access. Many rooms also have balconies. Other facilities are available depending on the type of room you select, as listed below:

- Standard: Single or shared* room with all the basic facilities listed above. Shared rooms also have a fridge and are ideal for couples attending the course together.

- Executive: Single- or double*-use rooms that are usually larger than a standard room and have a higher quality of decoration. Executive rooms also have a fridge, a television, and tea-/coffee-making facilities.

- Studio: Single or shared* studio apartments, each with a fully equipped kitchenette (fridge, sink, microwave, and hotplate; no oven), a television, drinks-making facilities, a guaranteed balcony, and air-conditioning throughout.

All rooms in the student residence are offered on a no-meals basis as standard; you can, however, add 1, 2, or all 3 meals per day in the on-site restaurant. The restaurant offers a selection of hot and cold dishes and can cater to students with specific dietary requirements.

For a more immersive experience, we recommend that you select homestay lodging. Hosts live up to 30 minutes’ travel from the school by public transport and all offer a safe and comfortable environment for you during your language course. You’ll stay with a native Spaniard and be able to practice Spanish with them, allowing you to carry on learning even outside the classroom. Hosts offer single or twin* bedrooms and 2 meals per day as part of your accommodation package (breakfast and dinner). As standard, you will share the living and bathroom facilities with your host(s) and any other students living in the home, though some hosts can offer rooms with private bathroom access (subject to availability). Bed linens and towels are included, though you should bring your own beach/pool towels. You will have your own key to come and go as you please, but you must respect house rules and schedules.

*Twin rooms are only available to students travelling together.

All accommodation is available between the Sunday before your course starts until the Saturday after your course finishes. Check-in and check-out times vary based on the type of lodging selected.

Activities

The Club 50+ programme includes a selection of social and cultural activities designed to supplement your Spanish tuition and give you the best possible experience in Málaga. You’re guaranteed to have one activity per day during the week, though on some days several activities may be available.

Possible activities may include:
- A welcome meeting on arrival day
- Guided tours of the city
- Visits to local museums and/or art galleries
- Cookery classes
- Walks around the Botanical Gardens
- Tapas ‘caminas’ in the city centre
- Trips to important historical/cultural sites such as the Roman amphitheatre and/or the Moorish Alcazaba
- Weekend excursions* to local points of interest such as Seville, Granada, or Jerez de la Frontera

*Students attending a 2-week course have one full-day excursion on the middle Saturday; students attending a 4-week course have two full day excursions on two of their weekends in Málaga.

You are also welcome to attend the sessions offered to all students on the general activity programme.

Suitability

This programme is ideal for mature students wanting to study Spanish with students of a similar age to themselves. Tuition is suitable for students of any ability level, from beginners right up to advanced-level learners. You do not need to start your course on a specific date if you are a beginner; since this programme only runs at certain times of year, all available start dates are available to all students, regardless of their starting language level.

Please contact us if you are unsure if this programme would be suitable for you; we will be happy to advise you.

How to get there

Málaga Costa del Sol Airport is located around 30 minutes from the city centre by car and is accessible from many European cities.

From here, you can either take public transport to your accommodation or we can add an airport transfer service to your booking for an additional charge. If you select this service, a driver will be waiting for you when you land and will take you directly to your accommodation. If you select this service on departure as well, you will be collected from your lodging on your last day and taken back to the airport in time for your departing flight.

You should arrange to arrive in Málaga on the Sunday before the course starts and depart on the Saturday after the course finishes. We may be able to arrange extra nights on arrival and/or departure for you if needed.

The course taught by Maite was enjoyable and tested my capability without being too difficult. I had learned Spanish hitherto using Duolingo and arrived thinking I was more proficient than I really was. The course gave me much better understanding of the basics (e.g present tense uses of hay/tenir/estar/ser/ir) than I had from Duolingo and improved my ability to listen and speak.

My room was small and very basic, a single bed, small armchair and desk, no TV. The shower was very good though, hot and had strong flow.

The cantina food was very good and well-priced; also the swimming pool was welcome for leisure.

I placed into a higher level beyond the other 50+ members so actually got an extra hour of class each day for same price. The level of teaching was truly excellent.

The residence hall was lovely with very nice rooms. I had a private room with bathroom and small porch.

The daily activities and excursions were all wonderful. Overall I felt my experience at the school was truly spectacular and I was pleasantly surprised by Malaga which is beautiful with friendly people and lots of fun things to do. I will highly recommend this school to my friends and family. Apple languages also did a great job of coordinating.

Enjoyed every minute the teachers were fun and very helpful. And the activities afterwards were well thought out and very enjoyable and the guide was excellent. The people I met were fun to be with and my friend and I were so sorry we only came for one week. I would love to do the 50 plus course again.

Our host, Manuela, was at charming lady and her house was beautiful. Our room was clean and bright and she looked after us very well. The only down side was it was up a very steep hill for two older ladies to climb especially if we had been down to the beach and after our meal in the evening we didn’t want to go out as it was such a hard walk back.

I loved the whole thing and would like to give you my sincere thanks.

Well constructed using school's own book to cover common grammatical problems combined with new vocabulary making it challenging as well as a revision course. My teacher was excellent - probably the best I have ever had. Laundry facilities appreciated.

Accommodation was very spacious, bright, view from balcony.

The teachers were excellent and fun, and the staff as well. The other members of my class had a good level of Spanish, and the class was small so we all had a chance to participate.

My accommodation was superb, big room, gorgeous home with garden, pool in the complex. My host senora spent a lot of time talking with me, which was great practice, and she was very helpful and friendly. I would go back there again!

I felt I progressed well even though I only spent one week there. Very like basic college accommodation, our room was fresh and good quality.

This was my second time there and if anything it was better than the first. The main teacher Maria José was perhaps the best I have ever encountered, but the whole experience was first rate.

The accommodation was Spartan, but it had everything that I would require. I believe that the Institute has more comfortable rooms and I'll ask about one of these next time.

Only attended for one week, teaching excellent, would have liked to have been stretched a bit more. Accommodation clean, adequate and comfortable. I loved the fact that all the staff spoke Spanish slowly and clearly. The restaurant staff were excellent, efficient and helpful. The cultural outings were interesting. I found the week enjoyable after the test. I thought the week was excellent value for money and the school is in a lovely location. The teacher was brilliant and coped well with the different abilities in the class.

The only thing that was difficult for me was the 8.30 start! Unused to continental ways! You undersell yourself. I did not know the school and course would be so good. You should let potential students know more about what is in the programme and what the price they pay includes because it is very good value for money.

I was placed in the beginners over 50's Spanish class which worked out perfectly. The tutors and other students were all very friendly.

I was in one of the student rooms on site which was small but had a shower and toilet. It could get noisy at night but that was to be expected as there were so many young energetic students on site.

The whole experience was very enjoyable and I plan to go again sometime in the future.

Our group was only in the school for one week, this being the maximum that we could manage together. Our teacher tailored our week's teaching to one specific area which I believe was highlighted on the initial test. I found sections of the subject so much clearer afterwards and I am grateful to Ana our teacher for her hard work and patience.

My room was basic but adequate for the purpose required. I am 73 years old now and have become accustomed to more comfort. The room was always clean and fit for purpose.

One week was far too short. I would like to return perhaps next year and stay for longer.

The course was excellent. I do not like tests and did not do as well as I could have, however I was in the correct group. There are not many English students I was only 1 of 2 , my class consisted of four people Dutch, German and Swedish. I enjoyed the fact that everything was taught in Spanish and I was surprised that I understood 90% of it. The tutors were great, over the two weeks we had three different tutors, once all three in three hours but mostly two a day.

A very good course, all the staff of the school and in Club Hispánico were friendly and helpful. The bar/ restaurant meals were good and the price was reasonable. Good choice on the menu. The area around the school has supermarkets, restaurants , tapas bars etc.

An excellent school. The staff were very professional and the course was well run. I will certainly go again. Very private, quiet and clean accommodation, a standard room with everything that was needed.

It was a great opportunity to meet and speak with students from all over Europe and the USA. Good facilities, restaurant, bar, pool and terrace. Nice food also. It was like a friendly hotel with classrooms.
