Spanish Club 50+ courses, Nerja

Spanish Club 50+ course in Nerja

15 Spanish lessons per week
Small class sizes that benefit mature students
Daily activities (excludes Sundays)
A full-day excursion to a local town or city

Our Spanish Club 50+ courses in Nerja take place at our Spanish language school in the town centre. Known for its friendly and outgoing locals, Nerja is a favourite amongst language students as it’s a town where you can easily make friends and practise your Spanish skills. Our school has 16 air-conditioned classrooms, some of which are accessible for students with reduced mobility or those using a wheelchair. It has a lovely private garden with a terraced area and an outdoor café. There’s also a rooftop terrace where lessons often take place, and various study spaces dotted around the building.

Nerja is a typical Andalusian town, with white-washed buildings and winding, narrow streets filled with eateries serving traditional regional fare. Most of these local establishments are in the immediate vicinity of our language school and are well worth a visit if you’re looking for an authentic Spanish experience. Nerja is a great location for nature buffs: the town is surrounded by dramatic countryside, including the Tejeda, Almijara, and Alhama Natural Park, which offers breath-taking views and idyllic scenery. An hour’s drive away you’ll find a collection of caves that are not just impressive to look at - they also contain evidence of human settlement from over 40,000 years ago! In July, these caves play host to a colourful celebration of Spanish music and dance. While Nerja may at first glance seem to be a sleepy seaside pueblo, it’s actually a vibrant and interesting town brimming with attractions for all to enjoy!

This school is accredited by the Cervantes Institute and is a member of the International Association of Language Centres (IALC). It’s an award-winning facility that has been nominated for Study Travel Magazine’s Star Spanish School award a whopping 10 times! These credentials demonstrate the high quality of language tuition provided here. It’s the ideal facility for anyone looking for an immersive Spanish experience that combines interesting attractions and activities with an authentic small-town feel.

Club 50+ course in Nerja

The Club 50+ programme offered by this school consists of 15 Spanish lessons each week (3 classes per weekday) in groups of no more than 10. Lessons take place between 10:00 and 13:00 and are followed by a selection of social/cultural activities designed with mature students in mind. Tuition is suitable for complete beginners and experienced learners up to B1 level, but is not appropriate for advanced-level learners. Classes follow the same format as the standard Intensive programme, with the exception that students must be over the age of 50 to be eligible. Course materials for this programme are purchased on-site.

The Club 50+ course can be taken for 1 or 2 weeks at a time and has specific start dates throughout the year. Complete beginners should start their course on the first week of the 2-week block.

Accommodation

Accommodation is not included in the Club 50+ programme as standard but can be added to your tuition package.

For maximum language immersion, we recommend that you stay with local homestay hosts. You’ll live with a native Spaniard and be able to practice Spanish with them, allowing you to carry on learning even outside the classroom. Hosts live up to 20 minutes’ walk from the school and all offer a safe and comfortable living environment. You’ll have a private single or twin* bedroom and 2 meals per day as part of your accommodation package (breakfast and lunch). You will share the living and bathroom facilities with your host(s) and any other students living in the home. Bed linens and towels are included in the accommodation package and changed weekly. Hosts do not provide a laundry service - if you need to wash your clothes during your stay, you can use the laundry service provided by the student residence (see below). You will have your own key to come and go as you please, but you must respect house rules and schedules.

The jewel in this school’s crown is undoubtedly its student residence, which is just a few minutes’ walk from the language centre. Offering standard and executive private single or twin* bedrooms, the residence is the most popular option for our Club 50+ students as it is close to the school, has excellent facilities, and offers the chance to socialise with your fellow students. It has its own library and bookshop, a student common room, a café serving a variety of drinks and snacks, a rooftop terrace with a small pool, and a lovely courtyard where wine-tasting workshops and other cultural activities often take place. Standard bedrooms have an en-suite bathroom, a television, and a desk for completing your schoolwork; executive rooms also have a minibar and drinks-making facilities. Bed linens and towels are included and changed once a week. A laundry service is available for an additional fee. As standard, rooms are offered on a no-meals basis, though a continental breakfast is included for courses taking place between April and October.

If you prefer complete independence, you should select one of the residence’s studio apartments. These studios are newly decorated and have a fully equipped kitchenette (including a microwave and coffee machine), a seating area with a television, and a private bathroom. Bed linens and towels are included and changed once a week. A laundry service is available on-site for an additional fee. As standard, studios are offered on a self-catering basis, though a continental breakfast is included for courses taking place between April and October. During this period, you can also select a half-board package and receive a voucher for lunch or dinner each day in a local restaurant.

*Twin rooms are only available to students travelling together.

All accommodation is available from the Sunday before the start of your course until the Saturday after your course finishes. If you are selecting to study for just 1 week, you should arrange to depart on the Sunday after your course finishes so you can attend the Saturday excursion. Check-in and check-out times vary based on the type of lodging selected.

Activities

The Club 50+ package includes a selection of social and cultural activities designed to supplement your Spanish tuition and give you the best possible experience in Nerja. You’re guaranteed to have 4 activities per week, though others may also be available.

Possible activities may include:

Suitability

This programme is ideal for mature students wanting to study Spanish with other international learners of a similar age. Tuition is suitable for complete beginners and experienced learners up to B1 level, but is not appropriate for advanced-level pupils. Note: beginners should start their course on the first week of the available 2-week block.

Please contact us if you are unsure if this programme would be suitable for you; we will be happy to advise you.

How to get there

Málaga Costa del Sol Airport is around an hour’s drive from Nerja and is easily accessible from many European cities.

From here, you can either take public transport to your accommodation or we can add an airport transfer service to your booking for an additional charge. If you select this service, a driver will be waiting for you at the airport when you land and will take you directly to your accommodation. If you select this service on departure as well, you will be collected from your lodging on your last day and taken back to the airport in time for your departing flight.

You should arrange to arrive in Nerja on the Sunday before the course starts and depart on the Saturday after the course finishes. If you are selecting to study for just 1 week, you should arrange to depart on the Sunday after the course finishes so you can attend the Saturday excursion. We may be able to arrange extra nights on arrival and/or departure for you if needed.
