Bologna is the capital of the Emilia-Romagna region, sitting in the north of Italy. This gorgeous city is filled with beautiful historic buildings and world-class restaurants at every turn, each corner captivating the hearts of visitors for decades.
The region is known for its mouthwatering dishes and phenomenal gastronomy - even lending its name to the well-known sauce Ragu alla Bolognese. The city has built its reputation as a bit of a Foodie haven over the years by maintaining its rich and flavourful cooking traditions. Bologna’s traditional dishes are often pasta based and usually contain pork-based meats and a sprinkling of parmesan cheese. A lot of meals feel like home-style cooking, where each bite brings warmth and comfort with a touch of familiarity. Ingredients are often fresh and high quality, elevating the overall taste of every dish.

Cookery course
The Italian and Cooking course in Bologna combines the Intensive Italian language course with additional cooking lessons. The Intensive course is composed of 23 Italian lessons per week with each lesson lasting 60 minutes. The course focuses on improving Italian grammar and syntax with a focus on communication. Class sizes are small, with a maximum of 12 students in each class in order to create a close-knit environment for students to feel comfortable practicing with their peers and instructors.
The cooking lessons are taught by professional chefs in our school’s fully equipped modern kitchen facilities. There are 3 cooking lessons per week with each lesson being 3 hours long. Students will learn to cook regional and local specialties our school’s state-of-the-art kitchens and learn to prepare something truly divine. Cooking lessons are conducted in Italian to maintain immersion during the course and to pair superbly with your Intensive Italian lessons. Students will get to eat the dishes made, often paired with a glass of wine. At the end of the course, students get to take a summarised cookbook home which contains all the techniques learned over the course. Private one-to-one lessons with the chef are available to be quoted upon request. The course is open to all levels from A1-C1.
Accommodation
Students can either stay with a Host Family, a Shared Apartment with a Host, or in a Shared Apartment with other students during their course.
We recommend staying with a Host Family for students who wish to have complete immersion and more opportunity to practice conversational Italian with native Italian speakers during their course. Students can stay in a single room at half board, which typically includes breakfast and dinner. Hosts live within a maximum 30 minutes’ walk, or 15minute bus ride from the school. Additionally, hosts prove a weekly laundry service for students. Hosts will provide you with your own key to come and go, but students will be expected to follow house rules.
Shared Apartments with a Host are similar to Host Family accommodation, except it is on a self catering basis with student access to the Host’s kitchen. This offers students a bit more independence while still having some of the support and interaction a Host Family would provide.
Students wanting more independence can stay in a Shared Apartment on a self catering basis. Apartments are shared with other students and contained a shared kitchen, common area and shared bathrooms. Shared Apartments are, on average, approximately a 5 minute walk from the school. WiFi is included.
Activities
The activity programme in the combined Italian language and cooking course features a variety of immersive trips and excursions to better acquaint yourself with not only the city, but the gastronomic culture. You will be able to participate in the activities held outside of your lesson times and cooking workshops - including walking tours of Bologna city centre, visits to museums and galleries, participating in the Italian Film Club or an Italian Quiz Night.
Students can participate in full day Saturday excursions to neighbouring cities such as Florence, Venice, Ferrara, Ravenna, Verona, Parma, Mantua, Dozza, or San Marino. Excursions take place every second Saturday and typically incur a small transportation fee of about 20-30€.

Transfers are available from/to Bologna Airport and Bologna Train Station at an additional fee. Our school is approximately 11.5 km from Bologna Airport and is accessible via Marconi Express and Public transportation within about 30-60 minutes.
