Italian Cooking and Language Course in Ravenna

Ravenna’s winding alleyways keep some of the regions more delicious dishes with a rich culinary tradition is the optimal destination for an Italian language and cooking course. Ravenna’s more rural origins can certainly emerge in some its popular main courses — with a lot of dishes sourcing fish directly from the nearby Adriatic Sea. Dishes commonly found in the region include Saraghina — known as an “oily fish” and once even discarded by merchants in the past. Saraghina is common in the northern Adriatic Sea but is incredibly rare in other areas of the Mediterranean Sea, making it less common in dishes outside of the Romagna region. It is typically breaded and baked, grilled or marinated, and makes a perfect addition to bruschettas and dressings. It is called “poor fish” due to its inexpensive prices, but Saraghina actually has a high nutritional value and is now more appreciated in restaurant cuisine.

The architecture in Ravenna is showstopping, with chapels boasting colourful mosaics and cathedrals filled with striking detailing and design scattered throughout its quiet streets.
