A-Level Revision Course – Montpellier (Place de la Comédie)

Come and join us on an A-level Revision course in the delightfully sunny city of Montpellier, which is not only rich in history and culture but also vibrant in spirit! Whether you are taking a stroll through the lively medieval streets, exploring the city’s main attractions or chatting with friendly locals, your stay here will certainly give you an insight into the customs and ways of life of this charming destination. As a university town with a quarter of its inhabitants being French students, Montpellier is the perfect location to take an A-Level revision course, where you can meet other students of a similar age and practice your French skills with native speakers of the language.

The school itself is located right next to the city’s iconic central square, within an impressive 19th century building, and consists of 23 classrooms, a computer room, student kitchen, mini-tourist office and a library with extensive course materials available to all students.

Courses in Montpellier

You will receive a total of 26 lessons per week (20 general French lessons + 6 exam preparation lessons). The 20 general French lessons will be with students of mixed ages (minimum 16 years) and take place from 10:00 - 13:15 on Mondays and 09:00 - 12:15 Tuesday to Friday. The exam preparation lessons take place in the afternoons, and you will receive the exact days/hours of these lessons upon your arrival at the school. These afternoon sessions are made up of students who are all preparing for the same exam, and in the case that there are no other students preparing for the same exam, these lessons will be private.

Level:
This course is designed for high-school students with approximately 4-6 years’ experience learning French at school (level B1)

Suitability:
This course is suitable for students preparing for their AS or A2-Level French examinations, as well as the Irish Leaving Certificate or International Baccalaureate.

Course content:
The 20 general French lessons will aim to improve your general French language skills and will focus specifically on:

• Written and spoken comprehension and communication
• Developing vocabulary using authentic materials
• Building upon all four main language skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing)

The 6 exam preparation lessons will concentrate on preparing students for the relevant AS/A2-Level, Irish Leaving Certificate or International Baccalaureate examinations. Areas covered in these sessions will be:

• Practicing by answering exam-style questions
• Learning the vocabulary required to pass the exam
• Learning how to approach more difficult questions

Accommodation

Stay with one of our school’s carefully selected French host families on a bed and breakfast or half-board basis. Half-board includes two meals with your host family each day (breakfast and dinner) and is ideal for students looking for a fully-immersive experience, as meal-times act as the perfect opportunity to practice your French with your hosts in an authentic setting!

If you have any special requests regarding the host family you are placed with, please let us know and we will do our best to meet these requests.

Accommodation is provided in single or twin rooms from the Sunday before the course starts until the Saturday after it finishes.

Activities

Between the months of June and August, the A-Level revision course includes a full activity programme, including a guided tour of Montpellier, cinema club, one group picnic or trip per week and one weekend excursion.

Our school also offer optional activities all year round, which can be organised and paid for upon arrival at the school. Activities vary depending upon the time of year, but typically include:

• Parties
• Picnics
• Boat cruises
• Excursions (Nîmes, Carcassonne, Marseille, etc.)
• Cultural workshops (acting, singing, cooking, dancing)
• Sports activities

How to get there

A transfer upon arrival from Montpellier airport is included in the price for all students staying with a host family on a half-board basis.
