Do you want to ensure that you pass your Spanish Leaving Certificate exam with flying colours? If so, we’ve got the perfect immersive package for you! On this course, you’ll develop your existing language skills, learn more about Spanish life and culture, and cover test topics and vocabulary to give you the best chance of success.
This peninsula port-town is an excellent study location for young students thanks to its small size, as all the best attractions are very easy to reach. Our language school is located just a few metres from the beach and a stone’s throw from city centre. It has 13 classrooms, various study spaces, a selection of student computers, and a fantastic rooftop terrace, as well as a kitchen for cookery classes. There are public transport links close by, so you can explore the city to your heart’s content after class.
As well as there being lots of shops and cafés surrounding the school, attractions like the ancient Roman amphitheatre, the Mirador de las Mujeres, and the Parque Celestino Mutis are all just a few minutes’ walk away. A little further afield are the Cámara Oscura observation tower, the Plaza de las Flores, and the popular Caleta Bay, which overlooks the city’s castle. Studying at this school means you can visit all these sites and more, having fun in the sun with other Irish teens while you improve your Spanish knowledge in preparation for your exams.
Courses in Cadiz
This specialist package consists of 25 group language classes per week, which are scheduled Monday - Friday.
It combines general Spanish lessons on the Intensive course with exam-focused preparatory sessions in the afternoons.
The Intensive course includes 4 group Spanish lessons per weekday, which take place between 09:15 and 13:00. In these classes, you’ll enhance your overall knowledge of Spanish in mixed-age groups which are organised by level. Your 5 exam preparation lessons take place in the afternoons and cover Leaving Certificate topics and themes. 3 weekly social activities and 1 full-day excursion are also included in the programme price.
Max. 10 students on the Intensive course; max. 6 in the exam preparation sessions.
This course is designed for Irish teenagers with 5-6 years’ experience learning Spanish at school (level A2/B1).
This course offers immersive Spanish revision for students preparing to take the Irish Leaving Certificate. It is suitable for students who are taking Transition Year as well as those going straight into their exams.
The minimum age for year-round courses at this school is 17, meaning students booking this programme will be treated as mature young adults. If you select this course package, you will be studying in mixed-age groups on the Intensive course and will therefore need to be comfortable with the responsibility of attending ‘adult’ classes. You will need to abide by a curfew, but your free time outside class is your own. Our team, the staff at the school, and your hosts are all on-hand to provide support during your studies should you need it.
In your Intensive lessons, you’ll develop your Spanish language knowledge in all areas: speaking, listening, reading, writing, and grammar. Spanish is the only language spoken in class, so the lessons are completely immersive. This means that there is a particular focus on improving spoken ability, which is an area of weakness for many language pupils. Traditional learning methods are combined with dynamic games and activities to make for a fun classroom experience. Students are grouped according to their starting ability level, which allows everyone to progress appropriately under the careful guidance of our school’s native Spanish teachers.
In the afternoon sessions, you’ll cover the topics and vocabulary which are likely to appear on your Leaving Cert exam so that you can be confident of success when it comes to the real thing. You’ll work through past papers in groups and as individuals, which will help you to master the techniques needed to get a great score. You’ll also use multi-media study materials to get as much exposure to and practice with Spanish as possible.
The language tuition is complimented by at least 3 weekly activities, as well as a full-day excursion at the weekend. Because they are all provided in Spanish and being immersed in a language is the best way to learn it, these activities will reinforce your classroom learning and help you to keep improving your Spanish skills without even realising it.
This course is available throughout the year. Please see our pricing tool to get a quote, or contact us for more information.
Teenagers attending this course can stay with a local homestay host. Hosts are all native Spanish speakers, so they offer an added level of immersion to your language experience. They live up to 20 minutes’ walk from the school and offer 2 or 3 meals per day as part of the accommodation package. This means that you’ll have guaranteed conversation time with them in the evening, which is a great complement to your classroom tuition.
Hosts offer single or twin bedrooms. If you’re travelling with a friend or relative, simply note their name at the time of booking and we’ll make sure you can stay together. If you require a special diet (e.g. vegan/halal/gluten-free), this can be provided for a small charge. Our hosts are friendly people who welcome students of all ages and nationalities into their homes, so they know how to help you feel welcome in Cadiz and can advise you about what to do during your stay.
Rooms are available from the Sunday before the course starts until the Saturday after it finishes, though extra nights can be booked to fit in with available flights if required.
It is also possible to book this programme package without accommodation and attend just the classes, or the classes and the activities.
Alongside its high-quality language classes, the school also offers a variety of fun and educational activities to all students. These usually take place in the afternoon or evening; the package price includes 3 social activities and 1 full-day excursion (Saturday), so we recommend booking for at least 2 weeks to take full advantage of these.
All activities are given in Spanish, giving you the full benefit of an immersive language experience. Several are offered for free, while some may incur a fee to cover entrance and/or transportation costs. The exact schedule changes throughout the year but can include:
- Walking tours through Cadiz
- Visits to local attractions
- Group games and sports
- Spanish film screenings
- Cookery workshops
- Dance classes
- Half- and full-day excursions to nearby locations such as Seville, Vejer de la Frontera, and Jerez de la Frontera
- Plus seasonal activities available in the city
