Leaving Certificate Preparation Course – Spanish in Malaga
Our small and friendly Malaga City Centre school is the ideal location for a Spanish Leaving Certificate Preparation course. The building is located right in the centre of this beautiful city, making it very easy to get to and from classes each day. There are eight classrooms, all decorated in a light, bright and modern style, and each equipped audio-visual equipment to help make the lessons dynamic and varied. There are several computers available for students to use throughout the day, and Wi-Fi access throughout the building will ensure young students can keep in touch with family and friends back home.
The total immersion Leaving Certificate Preparation course merges the general Intensive course (20 lessons per week) with dedicated exam preparation sessions and cultural activities designed to help students learn more about Malaga and its culture. On that note, did you know that Malaga is considered to be one of the oldest civilized cities in the world, having been founded by the Phoenicians around 770 BC?! Signs of the city’s varied past can be seen in historic sites such as the Teatro Romano de Málaga, Catedral de Málaga, Alcazaba de Málaga and Castillo de Gibralfaro.
In addition to its fascinating history and stunning architecture, Malaga offers beautiful beaches and a glimpse of relaxed Mediterranean living in a vibrant and exciting city landscape. Be sure to check out the Puerto de Málaga, which is lined with restaurants, cafes, shops and stalls. Why not relax with a cool soft drink after classes and indulge in a bit of yacht-related day dreaming!

Duration:
1+ weeks
Class size:
Max. 10 students on the Intensive course; max. 6 in the exam preparation sessions.
Level:
This course is designed for Irish teenagers with 5-6 years’ experience learning Spanish at school (level A2/B1).
Suitability:
This course offers immersive Spanish revision for students preparing to take the Irish Leaving Certificate. It is suitable for students who are taking Transition Year as well as those going straight into their exams.
The minimum age for year-round courses at this school is 17, meaning students booking this programme will be treated as mature young adults. If you select this course package, you will be studying in mixed-age groups on the Intensive course and will therefore need to be comfortable with the responsibility of attending ‘adult’ classes. You will need to abide by a curfew, but your free time outside class is your own. Our team, the staff at the school, and your hosts are all on-hand to provide support during your studies should you need it.
Course content:
In your Intensive lessons, you’ll develop your Spanish language knowledge in all areas: speaking, listening, reading, writing, and grammar. Spanish is the only language spoken in class, so the lessons are completely immersive. This means that there is a particular focus on improving spoken ability, which is an area of weakness for many language pupils. Traditional learning methods are combined with dynamic games and activities to make for a fun classroom experience. Students are grouped according to their starting ability level, which allows everyone to progress appropriately under the careful guidance of our school’s native Spanish teachers.
In the afternoon sessions, you’ll cover the topics and vocabulary which are likely to appear on your Leaving Cert exam so that you can be confident of success when it comes to the real thing. You’ll work through past papers in groups and as individuals, which will help you to master the techniques needed to get a great score. You’ll also use multi-media study materials to get as much exposure to and practise with Spanish as possible.
The language tuition is complimented by at least 3 weekly activities, as well as a full-day excursion at the weekend. Because they are all provided in Spanish and being immersed in a language is the best way to learn it, these activities will reinforce your classroom learning and help you to keep improving your Spanish skills without even realising it.

Accommodation
To ensure continued Spanish immersion in the accommodation, and to provide added support and supervision, teenagers attending the Irish Leaving Certificate preparation course in Malaga stay with carefully selected hosts or host families. All accommodation is located within walking distance of the school and the city centre, making travelling to and from classes as easy as possible for young learners.
If you are travelling alone the school will allocate a roommate for you if you would like a shared room, or single rooms can be arranged at extra cost. Those travelling with a friend or family member can be placed together - just mention this request at the time of booking. One laundry load per week is included for students.
The full board meal package includes three balanced and healthy meals per day. Special diets (e.g. vegan/halal/gluten-free) can be catered for, although a small supplement is charged. Breakfast is a light meal that is sometimes left out for students to help themselves to. In Andalucia the main meal of the day is often served early afternoon, with smaller dishes being provided in the evening. Your host family will discuss the meal schedule with you on the first day so you know what to expect from your stay. For the main meal you will sit down to eat with the host/family members, enabling you to practise your improved Spanish conversation skills and observe life in a typical Malagueñan household.

Although our young learners on the Leaving Cert programme will be expected to independently manage some of their free time after classes and at the weekend, the course does include three supervised, compulsory activities per week and a full-day excursion on Saturday (not included on the day of departure).
