Leaving Certificate Course in Paris

Leaving Certificate Preparation Course – Paris Eiffel

Is there any better way to get ready for your French Leaving Certificate exam than by studying in the country’s capital? This historic, world-famous city is widely regarded as the birthplace of not only French culture but also of art, of fashion, and of gastronomy. So what are you waiting for? Study in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower and give yourself the best chance of success on our Leaving Cert Preparation course!

This programme is provided by our Eiffel French language school, which is located just around the corner from the famous Iron Lady. By combining general language tuition with classes focusing on Leaving-Cert-specific topics and techniques, this course will help you to improve your French knowledge in all areas and to develop the skills required to ace your exams.

Paris is a great study location for young adults who love big city life and who are passionate about European culture. Though the city may be large and bustling, our school is not, making it ideal for teenagers. With just 11 classrooms, this medium-sized language centre offers the opportunity to meet students from around the world but still provides a safe space away from home. Students benefit from access to the school’s computers and a wide range of multi-media language resources that complement the classroom tuition. Drinks machines are available on-site and the nearest café is just a short walk away, so it’s easy to get refreshments between or after lessons.

Because of the school’s fantastic central location, you can experience everything this amazing metropolis has to offer when you choose to study here. With several public transport stops within just a few minutes’ walk of the school’s doors, you can easily reach renowned attractions like the Louvre, Notre-Dame Cathedral, and Le Jardin du Luxembourg. You can explore the city with your fellow students right after class, trying local foods and practicing your French with the Parisians you meet along the way!

Courses in Paris Eiffel

This specialist preparatory package consists of 34 group language classes per week, which are scheduled Monday - Friday.

It combines the Super-intensive course - on which you will improve your overall French skills - with Leaving-Cert-specific sessions that will give you the knowledge and confidence to get the grade you’re hoping for in your exam.

You’ll have 26 general French classes per week, which take place between 09:00 and 13:00 every weekday. Your 8 Leaving Cert preparation sessions are scheduled 14:15 - 17:15 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The preparatory classes focus on the vocabulary and topics that are likely to come up on the Leaving Cert paper using multi-media study materials and mock test questions.

If you wish, you can also add another afternoon workshop focusing on oral skills or French culture (Mondays or Fridays) or written French and grammar (Wednesdays). Alternatively, you can add 3 weekly private lessons to your group tuition. This is particularly recommended if you want to cover certain topics or if you have specific areas of weakness you’d like to target in preparation for your exams.

Duration:
1+ weeks

Class size:
Max. 10 students

Level:
This course is designed for Irish teenagers with 5-6 years’ experience learning French at school (level A2/B1).

Suitability:
This course package has been created for students who are taking the French Leaving Certificate examination. It is suitable for students who are currently in Transition Year as well as students who have already finished TY or those who are going straight into their exams.

The Paris Eiffel school accepts students aged 16 and above on its language programmes. Therefore, you will be treated as a mature young adult when attending this course. During your Super-intensive lessons, you will study with students of any age. While you will need to abide by a curfew and to be able to cope with the responsibility of attending an ‘adult’ course, our team, the staff at the school, and your hosts are all on-hand to provide support during your studies should you need it.

If you prefer a fully supervised junior/teenage programme, please click here for further details.

Course content:
The general language classes in the morning will help you to increase your knowledge of French in all areas: speaking, listening, reading, writing, and grammar. The lessons are completely immersive - meaning they are given only in French - and the classes are organised according to students’ starting ability levels. This allows all attendees to progress appropriately during their time at the school. The lessons are dynamic and fun; as well as more traditional learning methods, you’ll take part in a variety of language activities and games that are specifically designed to improve your confidence and French proficiency.

After lunch, you’ll have the Leaving Cert sessions twice a week. In these classes, you’ll go through the vocabulary and topics which are likely to come up in your exam to ensure you have a full understanding of them. You’ll also work through past papers so that you can improve your question-answering skills and writing techniques. By studying in this way, you’ll find yourself in the best position to pass your exams with flying colours!

If you elect to add extra sessions, you’ll cover the relevant topics in afternoon group workshops or have the chance to focus on what you want in your private lessons.

In the evenings and at weekends you can explore this famous capital city to your heart’s content. Since being immersed in a language is the best way to learn it, simply exploring Paris, hearing and using French as you go, will help you to improve your overall proficiency.

Dates:
This course is available throughout the year and can be started on any Monday. If you would like information about enrolment numbers, please contact us.

Accommodation

For a truly immersive experience, book homestay lodging alongside your language lessons. Hosts may be single women, couples, or families with children, and all are native French speakers who only speak French to their guests. In this way, they offer extra exposure to and practice with the language, which will really complement your classroom tuition.

You can book a single bedroom if travelling alone or a twin bedroom if travelling with a friend or relative. Hosts offer breakfast-included or half-board lodging; we recommend the half-board option for teenagers. That’s not only because it’s cost-effective and takes the stress out of planning the evening meal, but also because the half-board package offers students guaranteed interaction with their French hosts in the evenings, which is a great way to enhance your language skills without even realising it!

Rooms are available from the Sunday before the course starts until the Saturday after it finishes, though extra nights can be booked to fit in with available flights if required.

Activities

While this school does not offer a specific activity programme, the staff will be delighted to offer advice and suggestions for what to do in your spare time. In a city like Paris, with its many districts and all its history and culture, you really will be spoilt for choice for what to do!

Straight from the school you can stroll the Champ de Mars with an ice-cream or a classic jambon beurre. A little further from here is Rue Cler, where you’ll find fresh food markets and eateries serving delicious French cuisine. From here, why not visit one visit one of the many magnificent palais overlooking the riverbanks, or take a boat trip on the Seine? Or take a trip to one of the city’s 130 museums to learn a bit more about its history or art? If you prefer, hit Avenue des Champs-Élysées for some high-end retail therapy or Montmartre for unique boutiques and vintage clothing. Visit La Tête dans les Nuages - the Europe’s largest games room - or get your spook on with a trip to the catacombs. Whatever you do, you’re sure to have a fantastic time and get plenty of opportunities to put your newly developed language skills into practice!

How to get there

Paris has two airports: Paris-Charles de Gaulle (Roissy) and Paris Orly. Both are about 30 minutes from the city centre by car and easily accessible from many worldwide locations.

When you arrive in Paris, you can either make your own way to your lodging or we can arrange an airport transfer service for you. If you select this service, a driver will be waiting for you when you land and will take you directly to your accommodation. If you select this service on departure as well, you will be taken back to your chosen airport in time for your departing flight. Transfer services are also available at all train stations in central Paris.

You should arrange to arrive in Paris on the Sunday before your course starts and to depart on the Saturday after it finishes. We may be able to arrange extra nights on arrival and/or departure for you if needed.
