German and Winter-sports in Vienna
Not only is Vienna steeped in history and culture, this dynamic capital city is also a firm favourite amongst winter sports fanatics. Located within easy reach of some of the country’s world-famous ski-resorts, you can spend your weekdays sharpening up on your German skills and basking in Vienna’s rich cultural heritage whilst heading off to the slopes at the weekend!
Vienna is situated just a train-journey away from Alpine Skiing World Cup resort, Semmering, which offers over 20km of ski slopes for skiers and snowboarders of all difficulty levels. What’s more, you can get to the Hohe Wand-Wiese from the city centre in just 30 minutes, where you can enjoy a whole range of winter-sports, including skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, tobogganing and ice-skating.

Skiing in Vienna
From December through to March, you have the opportunity to take German lessons during the week and head off to the slopes at the weekend! Our school in Vienna organise full-day excursions to Semmering and the Hohe Wand-Wiese, which can be booked and paid for upon your arrival at the school. Prices include your ski lift ticket, as well as transportation to and from the resorts.
German and Ski Resort Work Placement
Want to enhance your CV, boost your career opportunities or simply expand your knowledge of the German language? Then a work placement in Vienna might just be the perfect option for you! After attending an 8-week German course, you can complete a period of work experience (from 4 weeks to 1 year) in a hotel, travel agency or ski school.
Work placements of 4-8 weeks are unpaid, whereas placements of more than 8 weeks may be paid. Positions available could include work in a hotel or catering industry, as well as ski/snowboard instructors in a ski school.

Accommodation
- German-speaking host families (no meals, bed and breakfast or half-board)
- Shared apartment. Private bedroom with shared bathroom and kitchen facilities
- Student Residence. Located 10-15 minutes from the school by public transport. Rooms include free Wi-Fi, bed linen and a weekly housekeeping service
Activities
5 cultural activities per week are included in the course fees. These may include: guided tours of Vienna, talks and videos about Austrian music, art, history, literature, etc., Viennese waltz course, parties, sports activities.
