Courses in Bristol

The Young Students courses take place either in January or from the end of June to the end of August each year. All students study English only in classes with other students of the same age group. There is a maximum of 16 students per class. There are general English lessons in the mornings, with each lesson lasting 45 minutes. All aspects of the language are covered, and our highly-experienced teachers are dedicated to ensuring that the lessons are dynamic, interactive and exciting. The teaching methods and resources are always relevant and up-to-date, with a focus on helping students to gain confidence and to be able to use their skills to express themselves in all kinds of situations.

Whether you book a summer or winter programme, the course package includes the following: 20 hours of tuition per week, comprehensive course materials, an action-packed activity and excursion programme, a full-day excursion on Saturdays, a school t-shirt, and a certificate of attendance upon completion of the course. Lessons can be booked on a course-only basis or with accommodation – if booking accommodation, the package includes full-board shared-room lodging with one of the school’s carefully-selected local host families, and a weekly bus pass.

Accommodation

Students are placed with one of our carefully-selected English host families, who all live between 10 and 30 minutes from the school on foot, or just a short bus ride away. All the homes are situated in safe, residential areas of Bristol, and our Young Students will have the opportunity to practise their English at any time with their host families. Breakfast, a packed lunch, and the evening meal are provided each day and the families also have WiFi internet access, enabling students to stay in touch with their family and friends as often as they like. Students will share a room with another student of a different nationality or, alternatively, private rooms can be booked on request.

Supervision

There is supervision at all times in school, with at least one supervisor for every 16 students. During all the extra-curricular visits and excursions, the students are supervised with one group leader or teacher for every 15-20 pupils. The students also carry with them the contact details of the school staff and the emergency telephone numbers, for their safety.

Activities

A wide range of exciting activities are arranged every day to complement the Young Students’ English courses at the school. The afternoon and evening programme includes things such as: barbecue parties, arts and games, film evenings, discos, ice-skating, and sports activities. The city of Bristol has a terrific, friendly atmosphere with many green parks and open spaces to enjoy, whilst practising English and discovering the city. There are visits to the zoo and to the museums in the city centre, as well as shopping trips. Full-day excursions are arranged at the weekends to places such as Stonehenge, Warwick Castle, Oxford, London, and the Wookey Hole Caves. There is also a school talent show at the end of each week and students can participate, practise their English, and thoroughly enjoy themselves at the same time!
