English course for teenagers aged 16-19 years in Cambridge

English course for teenagers aged 16-17 years in Cambridge

(16-17)

Learn English in Cambridge, famous for being one of the United Kingdom’s main centres of learning! Cambridge is a beautiful city that retains its youthful, student-friendly atmosphere, despite its rich history and stunning centuries-old architecture. Whilst you are in Cambridge, you must take a trip down the River Cam in a traditional punt (a flat-bottomed boat, steered using a long pole), as this allows you to see many of the city's sights from the most fantastic viewpoint!

The summer course takes place in one of two colleges which are both located just 5-10 minutes’ walk from Cambridge city centre. One of the buildings belongs to the university and is itself a wonderful example of Victorian Gothic architecture, dating back to the eighteenth century. The other is a private college in a lovely four-storey Georgian building, set in its own beautiful gardens. Both buildings offer excellent facilities for students, such as spacious and comfortable classrooms, a lecture hall, library, student common rooms and a traditional dining hall.

Courses in Cambridge

The programme includes 20 general English lessons (15 hours) per week and comprises a combination of communication development and themed topics on Cambridge University’s history and culture, offering a fantastic taste of life as a student in Cambridge! You will be learning English exclusively with students of a similar age to yourself (from 16-17 years) from all over the world and you will be encouraged to practice your English skills as much as possible, both in class and during the exciting programme of cultural activities and excursions. All of the teachers are highly qualified, native speakers who have a great deal of experience teaching English as a foreign language to international students of this age group.

Accommodation

Full-board student residence accommodation is offered both on and off-site, with the off-site option being next door to the school building! This accommodation is offered on a full-board basis, meaning that you will be provided with your breakfast, lunch, and evening meals (a packed lunch is provided at weekends).

Most bedrooms are single, but there are a few that are shared, in which case students are allocated a same-sex roommate. Members of staff will also be staying in the residences and will be available at all times, to provide care and supervision, or for anything you might need.

Supervision

This course provides students with full supervision whilst they are at the school or in their accommodation. All students are permitted some free time and independence, particularly on Sundays, which are free days. Whilst activities are offered every evening, students can choose to go out if they would prefer. However, all students must be back in their accommodation by 21:30 at the very latest.

Activities

Our English school in Cambridge arranges four afternoon activities and seven evening activities each week. A wide range of activities are offered, from sports such as football, basketball and badminton, to cultural activities such as punting on the River Cam, afternoon tea and tours of nearby colleges and churches, meaning that there really is something for everyone! You will be encouraged to speak English as much as possible during these activities. The school also arranges conversation clubs and English language film screenings, to help you further develop your speaking, listening and comprehension skills.

There is one full-day excursion per week, to places such as London, Hampton Court Palace, Stratford (the home of Shakespeare), as well as to Canterbury Castle and Leeds Castle.

Suitability

This course is suitable for older teenagers, aged 16-17 years who wish to study exclusively with other international students of a similar age to themselves, in a location famous for its academic excellence. This course provides a high level of supervision, whilst still allowing students some independence and free time.

How to get there

Airport transfers (both-ways) are included for students arriving to/departing from London Heathrow or Stansted Airports on Sundays (the arrival and departure days for this course).
