English course for young students in Ely

English course for young students in Ely

(9-14 years old)

Learn English at our school in Ely, one of England’s best preserved medieval ‘cities’! Despite its city status, Ely is actually a small, peaceful town in Cambridgeshire (it is called a city as it has a cathedral). This makes it an excellent, safe location for younger students wishing to learn English!

This course takes place at a historic private boarding school in the centre of Ely, where you will also be accommodated. The school buildings are all within 10 minutes’ walk of each other. Whilst the buildings are a stunning example of medieval English architecture, the facilities are very modern and perfect for younger students learning English. Not only are there 15 classrooms and computers with free Internet access, there is also a school hall for plays and social gatherings, student common rooms, a large dining room, a sports hall and gymnasium, heated outdoor swimming pool, tennis courts, outside playing fields, and an arts and crafts room.

Courses in Ely

This course consists of 20 English lessons per week. Your teachers will be highly qualified native speakers, and will also be very experienced in teaching English as a foreign language to international students of this age group. You will be studying English with students of a similar age to yourself (aged between 9 and 14 years) from all over the world, and your teachers will encourage you to practise speaking English as much as possible during your course!

Accommodation

You will stay in one of the school’s residences, which are all located within 2-10 minutes of the school’s facilities. Boys and girls will stay in different residences, and you will share your bedroom with other students from the course. Members of staff will also be staying in the residences with you, to make sure that you are safe. This accommodation is offered on a full board basis, and you will take all your meals with the other students in the school’s large dining room. Mealtimes really are a highlight on this course, as you will be dining in a large, medieval hall, with traditional wooden beams. The school offers balanced, nutritious, appealing food, including a selection of hot and cold dishes, as well as a salad bar (for lunch and evening meals). If you are out on excursion, you will receive a packed lunch, and at bedtime you will be provided with a late night snack (such as hot or cold milk, soft drinks, cake or cookies), to help you get the best night’s sleep!

Supervision

This programme offers 24 hour supervision for students. Members of staff live on-site, providing care and supervision at all times. In addition to this, students are not permitted to go out without being accompanied by a member of staff. There are usually around seven students to every member of staff.

Activities

This school offers an extensive activities programme, to help you practice your English outside of the classroom, and to help you have fun and make friends with your fellow students during your time in Ely! You will have five daytime activities and seven evening activities per week. Examples of typical activities include sports such as football, basketball and volleyball; cultural activities such as afternoon tea, museum visits and cathedral tours; arts and crafts such as T-shirt design, watercolour painting and circus workshops; and other activities such as orientation tours, conversation clubs and English film screenings.

The school also arranges two full-day excursions per week. Examples of typical excursions include London (theatres, museums and boat trips along the River Thames), Cambridge (punting on the River Cam and visiting the famous colleges), theme parks, Stratford and Warwick Castle.

Suitability

This course is suitable for students aged 9-14 years who would like to learn English in a historic and safe location with students of a similar age to themselves. This programme provides a very high level of supervision.

How to get there

Airport transfers (both-ways) are included for students arriving to/departing from London Heathrow or Stansted Airports on Sundays (the arrival and departure day for this course).
