English course for Young Students, St Julian's, Malta

(14-17 & 17-20)

Malta is a small archipelago, with three inhabited islands in the Mediterranean Sea, situated south of the Italian island of Sicily. The climate is wonderful and the beach season lasts as long as six months, from April to the end of October! Malta is generally considered one of the safest places in the world and is an ideal location for teenagers and young adults to learn English! St. Julian's, situated just north of the capital Valletta, is a beautiful town on the coast and a vibrant and lively entertainment hub, where you can also find the world-famous Spinola Bay and Portomaso Marina.

Our school has over 18 years of experience in teaching English to students of all ages, from all over the world and offers high quality language courses in modern and comfortable surroundings.

Courses in Malta

In St. Julian's we offer an all inclusive, junior English language programme with fully-supervised activities, for teenagers aged between 14 and 17 years old. We also offer a programme for young adults aged 17-20 years, who are looking for a little more independence and flexibility, with less supervision during their study holiday.

Both of these Young Students' courses in Malta take place at various different times of the year. Students aged 14-17 years can study at Easter, in the summer and also during the winter holiday periods. Older teens, aged 17-20, can attend courses in the spring and in the summertime. Please contact us for further information about the specific course dates.

The minimum course is 2 weeks in duration and for either age group it is possible to choose between the Intensive course, of 20 classes per week, or a Super-Intensive course option, consisting of 30 classes each week. Each class is 45 minutes in duration, with a maximum of 15 students per class.

The school's qualified team of teachers use up-to-date, stimulating teaching materials to encourage all students to participate in class as much as possible, developing their core language skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking. The classes are structured around exciting and interesting topics, relevant to the age group of the students. This provides a highly personalised approach, individual attention and a lot of encouragement.

Accommodation

For the unique chance to participate in the daily life in Malta, students can choose to stay with a Maltese host family. All host families have been specially selected by the Accommodation's Officer at the school and they offer a total-immersion language experience, in a friendly, safe and welcoming environment. Students staying with a host family often find that their English language skills improve extremely quickly, as they are able to practise with their hosts after class and during mealtimes or at weekends. There are single and shared rooms available. In cases where the host families live a little further away from the school, then there is a designated pick-up service every day, for all teenager students aged 14 to 17 years old. This is included in the fees.

Our 14-17 year old students also have the option to stay in the school's fantastic residence building for juniors, on a full-board basis. Breakfast and dinner are served in the residence, with a packed lunch provided daily. The evening meal is a three-course buffet where students have a choice of starters, main course and dessert. Students in the residence stay in shared, triple and quadruple bedrooms, with en-suite bathroom facilities and all equipped with radio and a television. Each room has a balcony with a country or a sea view, overlooking the beautiful Salina Bay. School transport is also included every day, to pick students up after breakfast and bring them to the school. The journey takes approximately 15 minutes.

Young adults aged between 17 and 20 years can choose to stay with a Maltese host family, or in the school's own residence building for young adults, located right in the centre of St. Julian's and close to all of the attractions, cafés, restaurants, pubs, bars, nightclubs and shops! The rooms are modern, twin rooms, with en-suite bathroom facilities. Breakfast is included each day and served in the school cafeteria. The residence rooms all have air conditioning and free WiFi internet access, in addition to a study desk, Television and phone. All students that book accommodation alongside their language course will have a free return transfer from and to the airport upon arrival and departure.

Supervision

All of the age-appropriate social and cultural school activities are supervised by the school staff. In addition, our 14-17 year old students have strict accommodation curfews that apply, regarding the time they need to be back at their host family or residence accommodation each day. There is 24-hour student welfare number, in case of any problems at all. Our older students between the ages of 17 and 20 years do not have any curfews and can organise their free time as they prefer.

Activities

The all-inclusive cultural activities programme for students aged 14 to 17, includes daily transport from/to the school and the chance to enjoy a whole range of extra-curricular activities, in a safe and secure setting. The weekly programme is supervised and accompanied all the time by school staff. Activities include trips to Malta's beautiful beaches, a welcome party, sports activities, boat trips and guided cultural tours of the island. Some of the activities will depend on the weather and so they are seasonal.

Our young adults, aged 17 years and above, also have some activities included in the course fees, such as welcome parties, boat excursions and cultural tours. These trips included transport from and to each site. Otherwise the students are free to decide exactly how they wish to spend their free time in Malta. There are a great many activities, sightseeing options, beach sports and water sports available to book. The activities coordinator at the school will be happy to help and advise with regards to all of the options on the island.
