Our modern school in Winchester
Located in the ancient city of Winchester, our school is a modern addition to the grandiose architecture sprawled throughout the historic city. Winchester itself has a history spanning back over 2000 years to the first settlers — leaving room for plenty of learning opportunities about the area during the student’s course.
The school itself has a modern campus boasting a bright, stylish and stunning feel that will leave students inspired to learn. And excitingly, our school is near Winchester Cathedral — which a beautiful feat of Gothic architecture that has earned itself the title of overall longest Gothic cathedral in Europe.
Accommodation
Students will have the option of staying in either a Student Residence room or Student Residence-Plus room — both situated on the gorgeous school campus.
The Student Residence Rooms are furnished with a bed, wardrobe, desk, chair and dresser. Rooms also include a small washbasin, mirror and light. There is a common room in each flat but cooking and baking are not permitted.
The Student Residence Plus rooms include a bed, wardrobe, desk and chair along with a single en-suite.
Both the Student Residence Rooms and Student Residence Plus options include a room key and full board with mealtimes as follows:
· Breakfast: 7:45-8:30
· Lunch: 11:45-13:30
· Dinner: 18:00-19:30
Self-serve laundry services are also available on the premises for £2.20 per wash and £1.20 for per dryer.
Activities
Along with table tennis, badminton and a chill area, students will have the opportunity to participate in supervised age appropriate activities seven days a week during the afternoons and evenings.
The Activity Programme is varied and features sports, creative pursuits, and a diverse range of skills. There are indoor activities such as Cluedo and Karaoke as well as outdoor activities like Zombie Night and Scavenger Hunts.
Half day and full day excursions are also included in the programme. During the first week there is a half-day excursion to locations such as Southampton, Salisbury, Bournemouth or Portsmouth. And if staying more than a week, students will have an additional half day excursion and one full day trip per additional week. Full day trips include destinations like London, Oxford, Bath and Brighton.
Each trip includes a guided tour of the area along with some free time to explore with friends. The amount of free time depends on traffic time getting to the location as well as age group - the 13-17 year old groups permitted a bit more free time than the 10-12 year old age group.
Supervision
There is 24/7 Supervision to ensure a safe environment, as well as well as a partly supervised activity programme run by the International Team to ensure safe and fun-based activities for students. Supervision staff is divided by age category to provide the appropriate care to corresponding students.
Students aged 10-12 will have a student to staff supervision ratio of 1:10. Students will be thoroughly supervised during all mandatory activities and town walks.
Students aged 13-15 participate in a compulsory activity programme in the afternoon, and at least one evening activity. During town walks, school staff will accompany students into the town before giving students the opportunity to explore in pairs or groups for a maximum of 2 hours.
Students aged 16-17 have the most freedom, with the activity programme being voluntary for students over 16, and have more freedom to explore on and off campus with their friends.
The supervision ratio for students aged 13-17 is 1:15, with the potential for larger groups during activities.
Students are not permitted to leave campus unsupervised.
