Your French classes will begin with a level placement test on your first day, to ensure that you are placed in the correct group, according to your language knowledge on your arrival at the school. The general French lessons are designed to cover all of the main language skills, of reading, writing, listening and speaking, with a great deal of focus on communication, so that you develop your confidence in speaking French, in all kinds of situations, both in and outside of the classroom. The school's team of native French teachers are dedicated to offering a fun and inspiring learning experience, using modern and interactive teaching methods, appropriately geared to young learners. In addition to the language tuition, you have the following exciting and unique course options:

French course + multi-activity programme

This special programme really sets our school apart from other schools in Biarritz, or indeed from other schools in France, as it combines your French language classes in the mornings, with 4 adventure-sports sessions every week, devoted to a different new sport each day! Your action-packed, thrilling afternoons will take place on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, in groups of 8 to 12 students, depending on the type of sport taking place. The possibilities range from rafting, to rock climbing, sea-kayaking, hiking, mountain biking and surfing, to name just a few! Each activity is supervised by a qualified instructor, or by a member of the school staff and the programme changes every day and every week, to offer you an incredible introduction to all kinds of outdoor pursuits!

French course + surfing

Biarritz is, of course, a famous European Mecca for surfing! For passionate surfers, or for students who wish to concentrate all efforts on learning to surf or improving their technique, then this course is the ideal choice for you! As with the multi-activity programme, there are 4 surf sessions each week, in the afternoons, after your general French language lessons and in addition to the school's standard programme of activities! The surfing classes take place in a partner surf school on “Plage des Corsaires” in Anglet. All equipment is included in the cost of the course and the classes are adapted for each level, in groups of no more than 8 students each. The exact timetable of the sessions will, of course, depend on the weather conditions and the tide. Don’t miss this exciting chance to learn to surf in a world-famous resort, with fully-qualified surf instructors!

Accommodation

Students of the same gender stay in shared rooms, on a full-board basis, with the school's carefully selected French host families in Biarritz. A host family is not necessarily a traditional family, but could be single people, or married couples, either with or without children. All of the French hosts in Biarritz are friendly and welcoming and will do their very best to make you feel at home and to help you practise your French as much as possible. You will need to travel up to a maximum of 30 minutes by public transport to reach the school from your accommodation. Breakfast and the evening meal are provided every day in your accommodation, as well as Sunday lunch. During the weekdays or during excursions you will receive a packed lunch to take with you. Please just inform us at the time of your booking in case you have any special dietary needs or allergies, which your host family should know about.

Supervision

Our school has an experienced team of professional and qualified teachers and coordinators, who will help you as much as possible to get the very most out of your stay. A group leader is responsible for the activities programme and there is supervision for all of the cultural and social activities, visits, excursions and sports. The teacher-to-student ratio is 1 to 8 for all of the water sports and 1 to 12 for all of the other activities offered.

Students are expected to walk or to take a bus to reach the school from their host family accommodation, but the distances are short and your host will be able to help you to get to know the journey. Full details and addresses are provided in advance of your arrival. The school also requests a signed authorisation from parents, if their children are permitted to go out unaccompanied in the evenings, with a curfew regarding the time when they must return to their accommodation.

Activities

In addition to the fantastic specialist courses described above, of either French with multi-sports activities, or French with surfing, there is a regular programme of social activities, cultural visits and excursions at the school as well, just to ensure that there is no time for anyone to feel bored!

Each Wednesday afternoon there is a half-day excursion to explore the Basque country and there is also a full-day excursion each Saturday, which will take you to places nearby, such as to La Rhune, Bayonne, St Jean Pied de Port and to Espelette! There are activities at the school, including parties, film evenings or guided tours of the city. The only thing you need to bring with you to our summer programme in Biarritz, is bundles of energy!
