Year-round German course for Teenagers in Augsburg, Germany
(14-17)The university city of Augsburg is located in the southwest of Bavaria and is one of the oldest cities in Germany! Aside from its lively student atmosphere, the city is known for being a centre for great businesses and for its fantastic leisure facilities as well, meaning that there is a good balance between work and play! Augsburg is also known amongst tourists and visiting students for being an extremely safe city and is the perfect location for teenagers, who would like to improve their German, enjoy a relaxing holiday and simultaneously get a taste of German life and culture!
The school building is situated in the historic centre of Augsburg, just a few minutes’ walk from the central train station and close to many of the city's museums, parks, cinemas and cafés. There are 5 fully-equipped classrooms, with a further 3 classrooms in a nearby building during the summer, in addition to a computer room with free WiFi internet access. There is a student office open throughout the day for support and assistance, offering constant supervision to all young students.
Courses in Augsburg
The unique advantage of the young students programme in Augsburg is the fact that the courses for 14 to 17 year olds are available all year round! This is not only a summer course, so you have the chance to come to Augsburg to learn German during the winter months, or during the autumn or springtime! You can start a course on ANY MONDAY of the year and there is an average of just 10-12 students per class, with a maximum of 15.
Students aged 14-17 years need to have some prior German language knowledge (elementary level) to book this course. The classes are designed with teenagers in mind and the teachers strive to provide a total cultural immersion experience, in a fun and dynamic environment. The course includes a minimum of 2 activities each week (4 activities per week in the summertime) and a full-day excursion every Saturday, as well as full-board accommodation.
Accommodation
Our young adults stay with native German host families, in shared rooms, on a full-board basis. A single room can be requested for an additional fee. The hosts are carefully chosen by the school's Accommodation Officer for the standard of the facilities offered. They are experienced and committed to providing our international Young Students with a welcoming and friendly home-away-from-home. The school guarantees that students will not have to travel more than 45 minutes in total, to reach the school from their accommodation and a local transportation card, for the buses and trains, is included in the programme fees.
By staying with a host family, you will have the chance to immerse yourself in everyday life and culture in Augsburg, to meet the native people and have a daily opportunity to practise your German outside of the classroom!
Supervision
A large team of experienced teachers will help make your stay in Augsburg as enjoyable as possible. The cultural activities and visits to local places of interest are all led and fully-supervised by an experienced member of school staff, including on Saturdays, when there is full-day excursion. In the evenings students will often have free time to spend with their host families, or they can go out to meet friends from their language course, provided that they confirm to their hosts where they will be and when they expect to return.
Activities
The year-round course in Augsburg offers teenagers a fantastic location in which to study German, surrounded by nature, history and small-town charm. Life is Augsburg is more relaxed and less hectic than in the bigger city of Munich, for example, which is only 30 minutes away by train!
In Augsburg you will find students gathered in the parks, locals sitting around in the cafés and many people simply enjoying the architecture and history of the city. The German language programme for teenagers includes a weekly supervised activities programme, with a minimum of 2 activities per week in the wintertime, 3 during the spring or autumn months and a minimum of 4 weekly activities in the summertime.
The programme includes, for example, a guided tour of the historic town centre, a visit to the Olympic park, swimming in the lake or in the local swimming pool, evenings in a local bar or café terrace, visits to the Allgau Skyline Park, bowling, picnics, pizza parties and trips to the botanical gardens. Full-day excursions take place each Saturday to Munich (visiting the English Gardens and the BMW World), to Nuremberg to visit the Kaiserburg and the smallest science centre of the world, or to the famous Swan Lake Castle of Neuschwanstein!

How to get there
Students normally arrive into Munich airport, from where they take the train to Augsburg and will be met on arrival at the train station in the city centre, by their host family. The host will also take the students back to the train station on their departure and this return service is included in the fees. If you wish to book an airport transfer service from the airport instead, then this is possible at an additional cost.
