The German language course for Young Students consists of 20 German lessons per week in classes or no more than 12 students — allowing them to forge closer connections and build confidence in a secure environment. The German lessons will cover the fundamental elements of the German language such as vocabulary, grammar, reading, writing, speaking and listening. As this course is made with teenage students in mind, it is created to keep students engaged and interested during their lessons and immersive activities. All teachers at our school in Spitzingsee are native German speakers, so you can rest assured students will receive high quality tuition from fully trained teaching staff.

German lessons tend to be scheduled in the morning, with the immersive activities held in the afternoons and evenings. This course is suitable for students who have a German level of elementary to advanced but is not suitable for complete beginners. Students are required to take a placement test prior to their course to ensure they are placed in the correct group once they arrive at the school.

Lake Spitzingsee is settled in a mountainous region of Bavaria, just north of Munich. It is Bavaria’s largest mountain lake at 28 hectares at base of the Shliersee Mountains. Whist the area is a popular destination for skiing in the winter, Spitzingsee in the summer holds an entirely different charm. The lake is perfect for swimming and other water sports like kayaking, the sparkling water a definite highlight of the location. Students will be surrounded by nature in this programme, with trees and mountains at every turn! The charming town of Schliersee is just 5 km away from lake Spitzingsee. There is a museum dedicated to rural life containing old farms that have been restored within the museum.

The school itself is as picturesque as its location. Formerly a hotel, the building fits right into the landscape with its wooden balconies and cosy atmosphere. Along with its spacious classrooms, our school also contains a climbing wall, TV room and garden for students outside of class time.

Accommodation

Students can stay in dormitory style on-site residence during their language course in Spitzingsee. Dormitory rooms are shared between 3-4 students, with each room having a bathroom and shower. The dormitories are bright and clean, with gorgeous views of the surrounding area. Meals are available at the school cafeteria on a full-board basis. If the student has any allergies or dietary requirements, please inform us and we will inform the school!

A laundry service is available once per week, but clothes must be labelled with the student’s name. Bed linens and towels are provided by the school and changed once a week. Rooms will be cleaned three times per week, but students are expected to keep their rooms tidy.

Activities

Students will have the opportunity to partake in the immersive activity programme during their German course, giving students ample opportunity to forge lasting friendships with fellow classmates. There are two activities per day — such as hikes in the Alps, swimming, mountain biking, a BBQ, rock climbing, game nights and more! There is also one half-day excursion to nearby cities like Munich, and a full day excursion to neighbouring destinations in Bavaria, so students will get to see more of what Germany has to offer. All activities are conducted in German to ensure full language immersion during their course.

Supervision

Student comfort and safety is a top priority, and as such, qualified staff will be offering 24/7 supervision, including in the dormitories should students need assistance. There is a 9 p.m. curfew, where students must return to their rooms by that time.

How to get there

The closest airport is Munich Airport, which is just over 100km away. Students can make their own way to and from the camp, or we can arrange a transfer from Munich Airport or one of the city’s train stations at extra cost. Please contact us for more information.
