Spanish Summer Course in Malaga

Malaga sits on the southern portion of the Mediterranean coast — the province boasting an impressive 160 kilometres of coastline. The city itself contains 14 kilometres of those beaches, making it a popular destination for young students wanting to study Spanish abroad. Malaga has grown into bustling modern city with music festivals and impressive urban art but still maintains its ancient roots through its historic centre.

Malaga’s Historic Town centre contains the impressive Arab fortress of Alcazaba and Gibralfaro Castle which offers awe inspiring views of the city. There’s plenty to see and do in Malaga — so there’s no risk of boredom as students immerse themselves in their studies!

Accommodation

Students will have three types of accommodation choose from for the duration of their Spanish course: a Host Family, On-site Residence, or a Shared Apartment.

Host Families are the best option for students wanting a fully immersive experience — as all hosts are native Spanish speakers. Students can practice their conversational Spanish outside of class with their Host, building their speaking and listening skills through everyday conversation. Students can choose to stay in either a single or shared room at either half or full board. Students aged 15 must stay with a Host Family.

On-site Residence rooms are available as either single a twin room with private bathrooms. Residence accommodation can be booked on a self-catering, bed & breakfast, half board or full board basis for students aged 16 and over.

Shared apartments are available for students over the age of 18 on a self-catering basis. Students will share the apartment with another international student in either a single or shared room. Apartments are typically shared with 4-7 other students with shared facilities such as kitchen, bathroom and living room. Wi-Fi is included in all shared apartments, and cleaning can be requested for a €10 weekly charge. Students will also have access to the building’s swimming pool.

Activities

The activity programme in the young student’s course is tailor made for students of that age in mind. Students will engage in cultural, sporting and social activities every weekday — one of which will include a half day excursion! There is a full day excursion on the weekend for students booking a 2 week course, and two full day excursions for students booking a three week course.

Activities could include sports like beach football and volleyball, or tours of Malaga’s historic centre and many landmarks. The activity programme is varied, allowing students with differing interests to participate in something that will keep them engaged and entertained during their time abroad. And who knows, maybe they’ll find something new that they’ll enjoy that they never would’ve expected!

Students will also have access to the on-site cinema to watch films with their peers.

Possible half day excursions include trips to Marbella, Nerja and Frigiliana.

Marbella is a stunning coastal city near the Sierra Blanca mountains with jaw dropping views and gorgeous sunny beaches. Within easy distance to Malaga, Marbella is an amazing addition the course’s immersive Spanish activity programme.

Both Nerja and Frigiliana are nearby villages with their own unique draws. Nerja is a sunny fishing and agricultural village with rocky cliffs overlooking the Mediterranean. Frigiliana is a mountain town in the Andalusia region with charming streets and artisanal shops making it a quaint must-see location in the south of Spain.

Possible full day excursions include trips to Seville, Granada, Córdoba, and Ronda. All located in the south of Spain, each city has a wealth of history and sights for students to delve into during their excursion — like Seville’s grandiose monuments and Ronda’s presence on the edge of the Guadalevín River canyon.

Supervision

Students will always be supervised during activities by capable, caring staff. However, during their free time students will not be supervised.

Curfews are in place for students aged 15-17, where they are required to be home by midnight on weekdays and 1:00 am on Friday and Saturday. Teenagers in the southern part of Spain tend to follow a “Mediterranean Timetable”, meaning people of all ages commonly stay out later than in some other countries. The curfew follows the typical hours local teens of the area might be out, and students are kindly asked to not take advantage of this curfew and be respectful of the guidelines.

How to get there

Airport transfers from Malaga Airport are offered at an additional charge. Airport transfers are mandatory for students under the age of 16 with a fee of €150 for a return transfer from/to Malaga Airport. The driver will await students with a sign displaying their name, the name of the school and the student’s flight number.
