Spanish course for Young Students in Malaga

Malaga’s coastal appeal is certainly a large part of its reputation as a phenomenal holiday destination. But beyond that, Malaga has plenty of educational opportunities for visitors and Spanish language course students alike. The city has a history spanning back to the Bronze age, with evidence of settlements from that time having been found. There are relics still standing from the 1st century — such as a Roman amphitheatre that was rediscovered in 1951 after being buried for decades.

Notably, Malaga is the birthplace of famed artist Pablo Picasso — a pioneer in cubism with a fearlessness for experimentation within realism and abstraction. The Museo Picasso contains an impressive collection of Picasso’s work, with paintings, sculptures, and sketches by the artist. Malaga’s creative scene in general is extensive, with large street murals painting the city’s art district amongst the various galleries and exhibitions. It’s really no surprise that Malaga hosts so many talented artists when their surroundings are so picturesque. The historic district in Malaga is an architect’s dream, the grand Alcazaba a jaw dropping Moorish fortification originally built in the 11th century. The unforgettable Castillo de Gibralfaro is perched imposingly over the city, a testament to its former part of the city’s strategically placed city walls that once protected Malaga from invaders.

Accommodation

Students can either stay with a Host Family or in Student Residence during their course in Malaga. Host Family stays are often the preferred option for students wanting more immersion during their course. Hosts are native Spanish speakers and can provide ample opportunity to practice conversational Spanish outside the classroom. Students can stay in twin or triple rooms with a host family on a full board basis. Host Families are located no more than 25 minutes’ walk to the school.
Student Residence offers shared rooms at full board and is located approximately 5 minutes’ walk from our school in the middle of Malaga’s historic city centre. Residence accommodation allows for slightly more independence than Host Family stays but still provide a level of immersion with fellow students within the accommodation.

Activities

The activity programme is tailor-made to keep young students engaged and immersed during their summer Spanish course in Malaga. Activities are conducted in Spanish to promote further learning during the course and to give students a better understanding of how to use Spanish in social settings outside the classroom.

Students can participate in beach sports, guided tours of Gibralfaro Castle, a Spanish cooking class, theatre workshops, and visits to Malaga’s main attractions.

Full day excursions take place once a week on Saturdays to locations such as Tarifa, Bologna, Nerja and Frigiliana. All coastal destinations, young students are sure to feel revitalized and inspired after a day at the beach making friends and soaking up the sun. Each destination has its own draw — Tarifa with its ideal conditions for wind sports, Bologna’s medieval architecture, Nerja’s stunning coastline, and the beautiful ceramic street mosaics pf Frigiliana. No matter the excursion there will be ample opportunity ot make friends, memories, and lasting impressions on students.

The cultural activity programme elevates the young student’s course from a strictly academic experience to an experience of a lifetime.

Supervision

Students will be supervised during class time and activities but will be permitted unsupervised free time outside of lessons.

The standard curfew is 23:30 Monday to Thursday and 00:30 at the weekend.

The host family will be available to support students staying with them, and young adults staying in the student residence will also have an on-site supervisor to provide assistance, if needed, during their stay.
