Learn Spanish in Santiago de Chile

Santiago de Chile is a modern, prosperous, city, enjoying a high standard of living compared with most South American cities.

Ideally located half way between the Andes Mountains and the coast, Santiago de Chile is an excellent base from which to explore the rest of the country. Skiing is very popular during the winter months, with excellent ski slopes just a couple of hours’ drive away. Alternatively, there are excellent beaches just a similar distance to the west.

To someone who has not been to Chile before, Santiago is a surprise, being much more modern, safe and developed than most people expect before their arrival – yet lying in the heart of a country with magnificent mountains, unspoilt beaches and virgin temperate rain forests.

In many ways Santiago is a ‘gentle’ introduction to South America, a language study destination which would genuinely suit most people interested in learning Spanish abroad.

Student reviews & feedback

I learned more in the 7 weeks in Chile than I had in a few semesters of Spanish in college. The intensive classes combined with speaking Spanish with your host family really helped me improve. I would highly recommend private lessons. felt comfortable with my Chilean 'family' and enjoyed privacy and really great food. It was nice to have someone looking out for you in a strange new city. My accomodations were great.

Very enjoyable and met my level well. Being in a group of 4-5 was just right in terms of the practice opportunity and chance to learn from others. Felt able to transfer what I had learned directly into life in Santiago. I plan to do another one next year in another Latin American country! Accomodation was comfortable and I had a good level of privacy. The family were friendly but not intrusive. I felt able to come and go as I wished. Very helpful to be able to practice talking in simple Spanish day to day. Very helpful to have WiFi available in the flat.

Generally a very well thought through four week cycle with grammar and conversation each day. Private lessons were very flexible in terms of allowing me to dictate what I wanted to cover, especially helpful with supporting me in practicing the spanish I might have needed in buying a motorbike. Accomodation was fine, quite basic, but communal areas cleaned four times a week. I was put in the best room in the house. Social events put on by the school were excellent and varied. location was good, safe area and easy access to the city centre. also covered a lot of cultural stuff about Chile, both past and present

Everyone at the school was very friendly and answered questions readily. I had two different teachers in the 2 weeks I spent at the school. My first teacher spoke slowly and very clearly, so I understood her more than the teacher in my second week, but it was good to have different teachers and listen to different voices. I really enjoyed meeting all of the other students from different countries, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, Brazil, Holland, England.

I began in group lessons for the first two weeks, but quickly realized I needed more and changed to private 25/30 hour weeks, without a problem. I stayed in the home of a charming and gracious family. My hostess was excellent and taught me a great deal about the culture and customs of Chile as well as providing excellent meals

The instruction and learning environment was superb each of my two weeks there. Incredibly friendly people, but the best thing about this particular homestay was the independence that I had living in the guest room separated from the house.

The teachers were excellent in that they were really able to help you to learn the material well. They were well prepared and taught us more than just straight from the book. My family was super! They were very welcoming and were more than happy to have me there.

I greatly enjoyed my experience at the school in Santiago! I learned an amazing amount of Spanish in 3 months, and was able to interact with great staff and professors. Most classes and professors were lively, well prepared, and were able to help me learn the language. My host family was wonderful, they provided all the necessities for living in another country and the food was wonderful!

The course was excelent, I stayed for 6 months and enjoyed every day. The activities where great and I can now speak spanish more or less with ease. The host family I stayed with where amazing and welcoming from the very first day that I stayed with them. I even went travelling with the two sons of the family. I would recommend them to anyone wishing to study in Chile. The accommodation itself was also very comfortable and always cleaned by a maid and the food was also really good and structured to fit my schedual in Chile.

Chile today …Argentina next!

I have been at the Santiago school for five weeks now, and I absolutely love it! I know that my spanish has improved tremendously and I have so many opportunities to practice it. Immediately after arriving, I felt very welcomed by the teachers and staff. Everyone is so friendly here!! I was a little nervous as to what my host family would be like, but I absolutely love them. I live with a woman and her 4 year old daughter. Everyday I can practice my spanish by talking with them. They live about 10 minutes walk to school which is perfect for me. Read more...
