Cartagena is an ideal place to learn Spanish, lying on the Caribbean coast it has a tropical climate, with a cool breeze and gentle surf. Our partner school, located in the old town, is a short walk away from some of the cities’ best attractions such as the Fernandez de Madrid square and the 13Km of colonial walls surrounding the city, known as ‘Las Murallas’.

The school has a friendly atmosphere and is in a colourful colonial building which has fully equipped classrooms, air conditioning, a small library, and a café where students can sip delicious Colombian coffee while taking a break from all their Spanish learning! Free WiFi is available throughout the school building which you can use with your own computer/tablet or available through one of the school’s computers.

The school not only teaches Spanish with highly qualified native Spanish teachers, but serves as a cultural centre with excellent activities and cultural visits. There are a great mix of students from all over the world who visit Cartagena throughout the year

Available courses

    We offer group intensive classes (20 or 30 lessons per week) in Cartagena. There is an average of 5-6 students per class with a maximum of just 8. Tailored private afternoon lessons can also be arranged, or a combination of group and private lessons for those with very limited time available! Private lessons help students focus on particular areas of the language, while group classes are suitable for learners of all levels who want to improve their Spanish language skills in a group setting.

    Our school is the only Spanish school in Cartagena that can help students prepare directly for the DELE exam, which we’ll happily arrange for you as a special request. Professionals will also appreciate the schools experience in teaching professional Spanish either in private lessons or a group setting.

    All students, apart from complete beginners, will complete a short writing and oral test on arrival that the school uses to assign students to the most suitable Spanish course. At the end of the course you will receive a certificate of proficiency together with a personalised report helping you with your future Spanish language progress.

    Cartagena is registered for the special Bildungsurlaub programme, offering 35 lessons per week, combining 30 group lessons with 5 private lessons, tailored specifically to your Bildungsurlaub requirements. Contact us for more information on Bildingsurlaub in Cartagena.

    For long durations of four weeks or more we recommend combining your studies in Cartagena with Medellín. We will be more than happy to arrange a special discounted price when doing this. You will see first-hand what both cities can offer, creating an incredibly rich Colombian experience. Your Spanish lessons are guaranteed to continue at the same level across both locations and for extra-long stays our school will also provide the air ticket from Cartagena to Medellín!

    Take advantage of full Spanish immersion and experience complete Colombian culture by staying with a Colombian host family in Cartagena! Our school only works with loyal, friendly and welcoming families that are all no more than a 25-minute walk from the school. The local host-families are carefully selected for each student providing you with a lovely place to stay, breakfast and optional dinner (half-board). Experience Colombian culture at home, as well as practicing your Spanish language skills outside of class time!

    A shared apartment with other students can be arranged on request, although rooms in this are very limited. The apartment has sea views, modern amenities and even a swimming pool! WiFi and weekly cleaning is included, an ideal choice for students that might want a little more independence. Private Studio apartments just a 20-minute walk or 5-minute taxi ride from the school can also be arranged, at an extra cost.

    Finally, if you prefer to stay in a Hostel then do let us know as our school can assist with organising a place for you. Usually located in the Getsemani district, hostels are comfortable and clean, close to the school, but basic.

    Activities

    There are three great cultural activities per week included in our language courses in Cartagena. From dance lessons, city tours and beach volleyball to typical food tasting, yoga or movie nights. There’s something for everyone to get involved!

    Extra excursions and activities can also be arranged at the weekends upon request such as horseback riding, mountain biking or taking a sunset boat tour and plenty more.

    Discover the incredible colourful colonial charm of the old town, the extensive fortifications and the bustling town squares. You should also venture to one of the 12 nearby Rosario Islands, all with immaculate Caribbean beaches.
