Why study English in London?

London

It’s no surprise that London consistently ranks as the top choice for our students who are seeking English courses. As the birthplace of the English language and a major global hub for business and trade, London boasts a vibrant character that is both rich in history and brimming with modernity. The city is a melting pot of cultures, offering a unique blend of experiences that cater to a diverse range of interests.

A ride on the iconic London Eye provides breathtaking views that are simply unforgettable. From this vantage point, you can admire the historic splendour of Buckingham Palace and the majestic Houses of Parliament, all while taking in the striking modern architecture of landmarks such as the Gherkin and the Shard at Canary Wharf. There’s always something new to discover in this dynamic city, whether it’s a hidden gem in a quaint neighbourhood or a world-class exhibition at one of its many museums.

In the UK, all routes lead to London, making it an ideal starting point for visiting other cities and attractions across the country. With several international airports, including Heathrow and Gatwick, the city is easily accessible from nearly every corner of the globe. While London is expansive and bustling, its efficient underground system, affectionately known as the Tube, makes navigating the city quick and straightforward. This means that students can easily travel to their classes, explore the city’s rich offerings, and immerse themselves in the vibrant culture that London has to offer. Whether you’re here for a short visit or an extended stay, London promises an enriching experience that will enhance your English language journey.

What is the best language course in London?

Available courses

On arrival at the school you will be placed in a suitable group with students of a similar level. This will be automatic if you advise us that you are a complete beginner. If you already have some experience of studying English, you will take a level test on arrival. You can choose to follow the course for any duration from 1-36 weeks or more. Every fortnight you will take a short test, just to check your progress. You will also be invited to discuss your progress with your main teacher once every two weeks. After class, you can continue your studies in the self-access centre.

The range of course options available should mean that you will find a course to meet your requirements at this school. Group courses of 20 or 28 lessons per week (‘Intensive’ or ‘Super-Intensive’) are usually the most popular, as they will help you to improve your level of English in groups of no more than 12 students. You can choose between a morning or afternoon timetable.

Of course, private lessons are also available and are particularly useful if there is something on which you wish to focus during your course.

If you are learning English for business, one of our specialist ‘Business English’ courses are a fantastic option as they will allow you to concentrate on the language you need for this.

We also offer a special ‘Exam Preparation’ course for students who are preparing for the Cambridge Exams.

The ‘Academic Year’ course is a special long-duration course, offered for 24-36 weeks. This is suitable for students who really need to reach an advanced level of English by the end of their course.

What accommodation is available in London?

    Twin room in On-site Residence

    Available accommodation

We can also arrange your accommodation, if you prefer. Our London Russell Square school offers host family and student residence accommodation.

Staying with a host family is a wonderful experience, as it will mean you have lots of practice speaking English with native speakers! It will also give the opportunity to experience what it is to be a Londoner! Normally, you will have your own room and will share the bathroom with your hosts, although a limited number of executive host families offer private bathrooms. You can choose to stay with your hosts on a bed and breakfast or half board basis.

The school also has its own on-site residence. As this is such a convenient location, availability for this type of accommodation is very limited. Bathrooms are shared and meals are served in the school’s café. This accommodation option is offered on a bed and breakfast or half board basis.

The other year-round residence option is offered on a self-catering basis and offers en-suite bathrooms. It is separated into apartments of 4-6 rooms and is approximately 20 minutes’ walk from the school.

During the summer, we can also offer university residence accommodation within easy walking distance of the school. Rooms at this residence also offer an en-suite bathroom. This residence is offered on a self-catering basis and is also divided into apartments of 5-8 bedrooms.
