Video guide to Bilbao, Spain
If you wish to experience one of Europe’s most cutting-edge cities, visiting Bilbao seems to be a must do! Bilbao, Spain’s tenth largest city, with a population of over 350,000, is located on the northern coast of the country, and is part of the Basque region.
With a yearly temperature average of over 14 degrees Celsius, the best time of the year to visit this incredibly modern city is usually between April and October, where the weather is very pleasant and rain fall is low.

In the video above, you will find many interesting and beautiful things in Bilbao, especially the buildings with amazing architecture, designed by architects coming from all across the globe, such as the Guggenheim Bilbao Museum. Does Bilbao have any other assets? Yes, the city offers some of the most delicious and varied gastronomies in Spain!
One thing you need to experience while in Bilbao, is hearing the locals talking about “el Grand Bilbao” in an impressively proud manner: the bilbaínos love their city, and like to shout about it!
Here is a selection of things you are forbidden to miss when in Bilbao:
You will be able to see most of the audacious architectures shown in the video by taking the original metro or other public transports: university, health public service, hotels, airport, and library…all of these buildings look like no others! The video clearly indicates that Bilbao is not about to be refrained from growing: the Zorrozaurre is an artificial peninsula, formed in the 1950s, and where the city still has ambitious projects, and is looking forward its future!
Walking on the cobbled streets around the Old Town will enable you to visit most of the city’s attractions for free! Among these sights, pay attention to the Teatro Arriaga, a sophisticated theatre that hosts numerous opera-related events, together with the gothic Catedral de Santiago. Make sure you also stroll around the Mercado de la Ribera, the city’s animated market place, built in an Art Nouveau style.
Hop on a bus/metro from Larrabesterra or Plentzia towards the city’s nearby beaches, to admire their natural beauty, and soak up the sweet Basque sun.
One of the locals’ favourite leisure times is to have a walk along the Rio Nervion, where you will be able to climb on the wonderful Puente Zubizuri, as shown on the video, the bridge binds the Old Town west side of the river to the brand new avant-garde east side.
Then it would be time to discover the fantastic Museo Guggenheim, which has clearly become the city’s icon. Its outside innovative design is as worth seeing as the masterpieces it contains inside.
Finally, if you wish to reconcile with authenticity, then getting to know a bit more about the proud Basque culture, language and traditions will be possible when having a look at the Euskal Museoa.
Come and enjoy a unique city, where people speak a very clear and easy-to-understand accent, on a Spanish course in Bilbao with Apple Language Courses!
