A perfect day in Aix-en-Provence
That the famous painter Paul Cezanne was born in Aix-en-Provence can’t be a coincidence. If I could paint I’d probably also feel the urge to immortalise all the beautiful things in Aix on a painting. But instead of paintings I’ve got like a million pictures from my stay in Aix. I’ve got pictures from the colorful market place, the fountains, the night clubs and the small cafe where I used to sit for hours.
When you’re in Aix you must definitely go on a day trip to les Calanques! The Calanques lies some kilometres from Aix and you can easily go there by bus. My friend and I packed our bags with our swim suits and fresh fruit from the market and set off in the morning without any idea of what the Calanques was.
When we arrived it was to a stunningly beautiful place. Lying by the Mediterranean, the Calanques is magical with its huge white limestone cliffs. My friend who loves climbing realised that les Calanques is the climber’s paradise and regretted not bringing her climbing gear.
Even though my friend was disappointed about missing out on a great climbing opportunity, we had a wonderful time in les Calanques. So wonderful that we were exhausted by the time we came back to Aix.
Aix has got a lot of great night clubs and we were planning a night out. But after a whole day of adventures we found ourselves too tired to visit any of them… Instead, we ended up at a small cosy bistro eating wonderful crepes (pancakes). When you go to Aix you must definitely try the crepes, the chocolate ones are dangerously delicious. A crepe is a perfect end to a perfect day!

It’s a shame you missed out on Aix’s nightlife Therese, but sounds like you had a great day nonetheless. If you do get a chance, I highly recommend trying out some of Aix’s bars during university term-time. There are some really cool places near the uni and there is always a fantastic atmosphere!
Hi all!
I went to Aix this summer to see Cezanne’s workshop and I really understood why he chose to paint that place! I was really surprised at how nice the city was, with a very relaxed atmosphere where you can chill out on terraces during the summer I need to plan another trip there soon!
A bientot!
