Antibes – Let’s go to the circus!

I’m Carmen and I come from Spain. I’ve just spent 6 weeks in a French school in Antibes. In short, everything was great!

However, I was particularly impressed, touched and delighted by one special evening I spent with my friends in Nice. We were really lucky to see the Arlette Gruss Circus show!

This is the one of the best circuses in France and it goes on tour every year, performing all over the country. It has taken a year to prepare their new show and it was performed for just one week in Nice (only 20 km from Antibes).

This year they put together a fantastic spectacle called ‘Circus City’ and the show was truly amazing with many beautiful costumes, a friendly atmosphere, good music and very funny clowns.

My French friends explained to me that the Arlette Gruss Circus is made up of one large family who have all been working together for many years now. Last year the family introduced for the first time their new little “star”, Arlette Gruss’ granddaughter. This year aged only 8 years old, she participated in an amazing show with horses and ponies teaching them tricks and then performing with them.

At the end of spectacle they pay tribute to Arlette, the founder of the Circus, without her great ideas, this fantastic show would not exist! It is a very touching and moving scene…

I had a really great time and I hope to come to the school in Antibes again next year to improve my French and of course to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Arlette Gruss Circus! I can imagine how great the performance will be!
