Genoa – A hidden pearl set between the mountains and the sea…
Genoa, the first thing to say about this city is that it’s just magic! I’m Elisa, I’ve studied in Genoa, worked there and I can tell that it’s one of those cities you never get tired of, since there’s always plenty of places to see, things to do and new friends to make!
If you have the chance to go there, I’m going to suggest you the best places I know where you can enjoy some of the most beautiful sceneries of this charming city, the best little shops where all Genovese go and buy food as well, and also where you can go to enjoy the real night life, as if you were born in Genoa!
I hope that, while reading this, you will feel like you are travelling virtually with me through the vicoli, you’ll taste with me the wonderful and incomparable focaccia and enjoy together its lively and amazing nightlife!
And… here we are in Genoa! What about starting our tour in one of the little pedestrian streets in Genoa, it’s called Via San Vincenzo and it’s just some minutes walk from both the station and the main square in Genoa. Walking up this street, you can find two of the best focaccerie where you can taste our special, amazing and absolutely unique focaccia! You can also have a slice of pizza or farinata another speciality of Genovese cuisine.
With this amazing food in your hands, we can go up the street, passing under the Monumental Bridge and we’ll find ourselves in Via XX Settembre, one of the biggest and main street in Genoa, and one of the streets where you can go shopping in your free time. At the top of the street is the famous Piazza De Ferrar with a huge fountain. There you can find some of the most impressive buildings in the city, such as the theatre Carlo Felice and the Palazzo Ducale. – well worth seeing!
But, let’s go on with our tour, from this square we can reach 3 other fantastic places. You’ll only have to decide which day doing what!
The Italian language school in Genoa is really centred located. From the school you can easily reach the beautiful Via Balbi (on which the University is located), the port of Genoa and the Acquario. You are also just few minutes’ walk from also the amazing vicoli!
The best place where to be in Genoa is the vicoli! They literally come to life around the aperitivo time and later for the night! Piazza delle Erbe is one of the most crowded and full of life places in the vicoli, where people usually meet, you can either sit down or have a beer or a cocktail, or standing there, since you will be surrounded by lots of young people, and it’s a fantastic place to meet new friends!
In fact, in Genoa, you will find plenty of both Italian and international students, since the University of Genoa is very big and well – known all over Italy and abroad. Then, if you reach vico San Bernardo, you will find as well another famous cheap bar where to get cocktails and meet many many new friends!
Genoa has also many night clubs where to go depending of the kind of music that you prefer, and in the vicoli, you will find many people advertising these places, so it will be easy to get to know them fast!
I literally loved my time in Genoa! I hope you have now an idea of how awesome it is, and if you want to know some of the main events organized in Genoa and the most beautiful places that you can easily reach from there, just have a look at my next post about Genoa!
To be continued… Elisa
