Different Cultures – Common Goals!

Hi guys, I counted the number of different nationalities on my course today and I was amazed!

This week there are people from America, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Britain, Germany, The Netherlands, Iceland, Scotland and Russia and they are all learning Italian!

What a great way to learn a language, we go out, we socialize, we eat in nice restaurants and we all communicate with each other in our new language. Ok, now and again I use my English to help along my Italian, but being part of an international community makes you want to speak Italian. And then of course, there are lots of Italian people who are only too willing to listen to you while you try to get your message across.

We had so much fun trying to remember Italian songs and singing them in the restaurant. Here the restaurants are great, they try to help tourists as much as possible and often you will find a waiter who is willing to join in the sing along.

The weather has improved and there is a lot of movement in the town. It’s a shame more people don’t think about doing a basic course in the language where they are on holiday. Maybe lots of tourists don’t realize that you can do a couple of hours a day for a week or two and these 10 – 20 hours can make a real difference to your understanding of the country, its people and culture AND gives you the added advantage of being able to order basic things in shops and bars without struggling with a phrasebook or worse still, insisting on speaking English in another country. That is so old fashioned!

The school I’m at is GREAT, with really friendly staff and fantastic teachers – and it’s right in the historic centre of Sorrento!

And even if you don’t want to learn the Italian language, you can always come here to try a course in Italian Cookery or ceramics or Art. Come here and see how real food is cooked and you will never again be fooled by Italian ready made meals!

Add some Italian language lessons to the mix and I can safely say that it will be one of the best travel/cultural experiences of your life.

It has been for me!
