Living the good life in Sorrento!

The sun is shining and I’m sitting on my school’s glorious sun terrace….! There are tables and chairs outside so the students can sit in the sun or have lunch or a chat before or after the lessons. My school is soooo organized!!… It doesn’t just give you Italian Lessons, it really does everything to help make your stay in Sorrento an amazing experience!

The staff are always on hand to help you, but I must say that staying in Sorrento is usually a trouble free experience as there is hardly any crime and the people of the town are friendly and helpful. But my school has made such a difference to my stay, they have organized pizza parties for myself and other students, they take us on tours of Sorrento and the surroundings and explain the location and its history. We also have organized evenings out with the other students for a real fun way of getting to know other people from all over the world.

The lessons are always interesting and far removed from the boring approach to language teaching that I remember from my school days (the school uses multi media and interesting articles to promote discussion and to involve all the students).

I will be really sad to leave this beautiful beautiful place. Just think, thousands of people now travel to far flung places every year and they haven’t even seen what treasures can be enjoyed in other European countries, much closer to home! Americans and other students from Japan and Australia travel all this way to see and experience the delights of Sorrento, and yet there are many people in the rest of Europe who live so near and haven’t even been here! I can’t believe it!

This afternoon we are having a pronunciation lesson and afterwards we are going to sweeten it off with a visit to an ice cream factory with teachers from the school (how cool is that, if you pardon the pun!!). This coming weekend, I’ve arranged to go up Vesuvio with a few friends. Then, the following weekend, cos it’s a long weekend, we are going to spend 2 nights on the island of Ischia in a thermal spa with 15 different thermal pools!! Wow!

Not that Sorrento can’t offer the same, there is a fabulous sports centre with swimming pool and spa really nearby, but we have already been there loads! We love it, and just fancy trying the same thing somewhere else! In fact, one of the best things about staying in Sorrento is the choice of things to do, and the choice is SO varied. … and, thanks to the school, my Italian just keeps getting better and better!!

Just like the ice-cream……….

Will keep you informed!

Salve
