Big News: Jo Franco is Heading to Malaga!

Happy students in a Spanish lesson in MalagaWe are excited to announce that this April, travel blogger, storyteller, and polyglot extraordinaire Jo Franco will be joining us for a Spanish course at our Malaga City Centre school.

Jo is embarking on a unique language immersion project designed to push her Spanish skills to the next level while diving deep into the heart of Andalusian culture. Whether you know her from her popular Netflix show or have come across her inspiring content online, Jo is not an ordinary travel blogger. She loves to immerse herself in local language, culture and history to truly connect with the people she meets, inspiring others to follow in her footsteps.

Beyond the Spanish Textbook

With a Brazilian background and exceptional language skills already, Jo currently sits at around a B1.2 level for Spanish, which represents a very strong grasp of the language. She can understand most things clearly, but feels a little rusty when it comes to responding effectively and putting her knowledge into practice. To bridge that gap, she will be taking a short amount of specialised private lessons at our City Centre school. She is hoping to skip some of the group grammar drills in favour of something a little more tailored to her exact requirements during this short stay.

Jo is eager to progress beyond functional Spanish to a level where she can express her personality and emotions with genuine authenticity. Rather than enrolling in group classes, she has chosen one-to-one tuition to focus on mastering complex feelings and abstract ideas with her private tutor. This personalised approach ensures that her speech truly reflects her thoughts and allows for a deeper connection with the language.

A key part of this journey for Jo will involve exploring deep-rooted cultural concepts such as duende, that elusive Andalusian spirit of passion, soul, and artistic inspiration. By engaging in natural, conversational learning rather than formal drills, she aims to transcend basic phrases and capture the true poetic essence of the Spanish language. This immersive approach will allow her to connect with the local culture on a much more profound and lived level, ultimately helping her to produce a fascinating and fun documentary-style episode that showcases the heart of Malaga.

A Fully Immersive Experience

To get the full “lived” perspective, Jo is opting for host family accommodation. She is really looking for that authentic connection from a local that is more than just a place to sleep. During her time at the school and with her host mother, Jo and her partner will be filming in a discreet, documentary style to capture the magic of local life. When complete, we expect to see shared meals and real conversations with her host. There will be natural moments in the kitchen where her host family teaches her the secrets of regional cooking and the kind of spontaneous Spanish practice that only happens over a dinner table.
