Connected in Cuba

So you want to go to Cuba, but you’re worried about the internet connection there? If you need to know how to get connected in Cuba then this post is for you!

Recently a student contacted us specifically to express concern about the lack of Internet access in Cuba.

Although Internet access isn’t as available in Cuba as it is here in Europe, it is getting better. You will find more and more WiFi hotspots throughout the major Cuban cities and towns.

French Courses for Irish Leaving Certificate Students

We’re often asked whether we arrange courses for young Irish students who are preparing for the Leaving Certificate.  As we are based in the UK, it’s a common misconception that we only arrange courses for British students.  This definitely isn’t the case!  We have a large Irish client base – so much so that we have a dedicated telephone number for our Irish customers (01 6950417).

All our courses are suitable for students at any stage in their education.  Participants will take a level test prior to starting the course which makes sure they are placed in a group with students of a similar ability.

Winter Sun

Here in the UK we’ve been experiencing a heatwave for the last month or two, and it’s getting hard to remember a time when we couldn’t leave the house without a coat or an umbrella.

The bad news is that the chilly weather will eventually return.  The good news is that we have plenty of winter destinations that will help you to maintain that sun-kissed glow!

Learn a language abroad – what’s stopping you?

It’s common knowledge that having a good grasp of a second language opens many doors. This is true whether it is work-, study-, or leisure-related.

For this reason, we thought it was time to write a post asking…
What’s stopping YOU?

Festivals and events throughout the year

If you want to:
– Learn a foreign language, then do so in a country that speaks it.
– Surround yourself with the language as much as possible, then stay with a local host family.
– Fully appreciate a country’s traditions and culture, then take part in a local or national festival!

Many festivals and events celebrate local culture, cuisine, music or art. Europe’s festival season is normally during Spring and Summer, but festivals, local parties, events and celebrations take place all year long throughout the world.

San Sebastian – Top 10

San Sebastian is a wonderful city to live and to study in. Having lived there for five months, I will let you in on some of the best bits of the city:

1. Food! (pintxos, pintxos, pintxos)

San Sebastian is known worldwide for it’s Michelin star restaurants (try Mugaritz and Arzak). It is also famous for it’s specifically basque take on tapas, called Pintxos.

English in Liverpool – Friday – my last day

Start reading about my time in Liverpool from Day 1.

Following on from my Thursday post, my last day on an English course in Liverpool has arrived. I am reluctant to say I am sad, as it seems impossible to be sad in Liverpool!

As expected, the last English classes I had were amazing. The day before we talked about reading so, naturally, that Friday we talked about cinema!  Read more…

English in Liverpool – Thursday

Following the great day on Wednesday, Thursday’s class was also extremely interesting! A real generic English lesson! It started by introducing us to the Hemingway “six words” bet. Whether it was false or not, the story goes that the American writer won a bet because he could write a story in just six words: “For sale: baby shoes, never worn”. After we had discussed this short story, we read an essay about a journalistic venture that asked people to write their own story in six words. The results were fascinating. People will always surprise you!

English in Liverpool – Wednesday

The next morning, as promised on Tuesday, our teacher brought back up the story with the random suggested words. He also spent some time going through our homework with us whilst we were engaged in other useful tasks. Actually, in the stories all the verbs were only at Past Simple or, (horror!) at Present Simple!

It was so satisfying to be able to edit and check that texts and it was useful to consolidate all the Narrative Tenses knowledge as well. IMPRESSIVE WORK!
